34 Weeks horrible pain in right side kidney area... Any advise or thoughts on what it may be? update

edited June 2011 in Health
I am 34 Weeks prego as of today. and off n on threw out the day i've been having sharp stabbing pains on my right side in the area where my kidneys are. (I have had 3 UTI's in the last 2 months) I have a Dr. appointment set for 11am tomorrow morning but the pain just keeps getting worse. Do you ladies have any thoughts on what this might be or have had it urself? I've tried taking tylonal and hubby gave me a back rub neither did any good.

  • Also, I am having a much duller version of the same pain on my left side in the same area. Dont know if this matters or not.
  • That sounds like a kidney infection :( they aren't fun and very painful
  • With ur previous utis I'm guessing that's what it is. Hopefully dr finds out tomorrow
  • Thats what i'm worried about aswell. I just dont know if i should try to wait it out till my Dr. visit or go to the ER now. I'm in so much pain all i wanna do is lay here n cry. I've thought off n on during the day that i may have been running a fever but every time i check my temp. its been 86.8 kinda low but nothing to worry about. The pain is getting bad enough now that its causing me to have lower back pain n abdomanal (sp) cramping.
  • I had the same problem but mine turned into stones and that is why I hurt. I have stents in still to this day and until I deliver because they can't do anything. I'm hoping for you it is just an infection, but make sure you tell them it hurts bad.
  • I ended up going to the hospital to find it out my doctor couldn't do anything for me... but that is just what happened to me....if your insurance covers it.. go to the er.. at least if it is an infection they'll give you antibiotic and you won't be in pain as long
  • I would go to the er. Having a kidney infection can actually cause preterm labor. It happened to me at 23 weeks. If u are in that much pain and starting to cramp up I would def go in girly!
  • My insurance would cover it but its $200 just to walk in the door. and its money that we dont really have right now. but i do know that a Kidney infection can be very very bad for baby. @KalikoJenie did your pain come and go in the begining or was it constant?
  • maybe kidney stones? with my first pregnancy i went to the er cus of stabbing pains and i had blood in my urine and it was a kidney stone. they just told me to drink lots of water.. which i already was. lol
  • in the beginning it would come and go, then after a bit it was constant and nothing I could do to allievate it. Do you drink a lot of water? Sometimes you can flush an infection with water and cranberry juice. Also I used hot water a lot to help allievate what pain I was in like standing in a shower with water as hot as you can stand.
  • @jazzi89 thanks hun. I think i'm gonna I just feel horrible waking hubby up after he just went to bed. Hes been beyond amazing tonight dealing with my pain and crying even made me lay in his lap so he could do kick counts for 2 hours then spent what seemed like forever trying to rub my back to make the pain go away. I'm so tender that i wanted to scream everytime he got near the Kidney area.
  • Is the pain in your lower back or up in your rib cage? Because at 34 weeks your kidneys are up in your rib cage.
  • Keep me updated, I hope your ok and it is just an infection kidney stones suck way worse :(
  • @KalikoJenie I havent tried the hot water. I cary around a 28oz green jug n i go threw about 3 to 4 complete fill ups a day.
  • I just went to the hospital for that and I had a uti but I could swear I didn't have one cause I had no pain when I peed
  • @rockinmomma its in my ribs. Hubby was just rubbing my lower back because i started having contractions n i couldnt stand for him to rub my kidney area.
  • Oh thats no good :( I hope you get it all figured out, kidney pains are the worst!!
  • Kandc1015 I have never had pain when i peed with a UTI in fact the only feeling i have is cramping in my lower tummy and a feeling of "MY BABYS GONNA FALL OUT!!!"
  • I had 2 kidney infections while pregnant that felt exactly like that...
  • @everyone. Well hubby is pretty well zonked and feels like we can wait till tomorrow. He said if it were my kidneys they wouldn't be tender to the touch. So I think ill be spending my night on the. Couch.
  • Blah. Sleep is not gonna be an option tonight. I'm seriously thinking of punching him in the kidney right now just so I can ask him if it hurt...
  • Mine was a swollen kidney from being pregnant. Mine was not stabbing though.
  • How are you feeling today?
  • couls be an infection i had the same pains and stuff at 22weeks and went to the hospital and they ended up haveing to fit me with a uteric stent.
  • could be gallstones..kidney stones..or an infection..
  • @mummy_2_be19 I have one of those in. It sucks. I have been on bed rest because it is so freaking painful. I don't think mine is sitting the way it is suppose to, but thankfully I only have four more weeks to go
  • @kalikojenie yh mines been really painful aswell but ionly got 3 weeks till my duedate so i dont have to pu up with it for too muh longer thankfully.lol.
  • @mummy_2_be19 yeah I have had mine in since... id say 24 weeks I believe so I am happy to almost be done with it... although depending on when baby comes I may have to wait til I'm 2 weeks post partum to actually get it out.. I'm hopung baby comes on a weekday so I can get it out in th same stay
  • @kalikojenie Well good news!!! Dr thinks my kidneys are OK.most if my pain is back labor!!! :-D after last night I'm over 1cm dilated and 30% effaced and he is now head down. I'm also to go get a prenatal massage to help relax my back muscles! I'm so excited, n my poor hubby almost past out in his seat. Lol
  • Oh my goodness!! I am so happy for you!! At least it was good news!! *hugs*
