worried contracting uterus

Im 17wks and i can feel a hard ball in my stomach that gets hard off and on all day and has been doing this for a few days. I feel like its too early for me to be having contractions and and need to know if anyone else has this. I went for an amnio on friday and as they were doing the u/s to find where they can stick the needle, they said they had to wait a little because my uterus was contracting. They did not seem concerned and made it seem like this is normal.

    Most likely braxton hicks, perfectly normal :)

    If its not painful they're most likely braxton hicks and they're completely normal. They can start as early as 12 weeks but most women don't feel or notice them. If they become painful then it's time to worry.

    as long as they aren't painful or have bleeding you are fine!
