Making your own burp cloth!

Hmmm, I'm reallly thinking about doing this. I'm sitting here comparing prices for burp clothes at WM, Target and BRU... Fabric costs aren't that high, and I could make several from a good piece!

Input? Would you do it too?

  • And if you make things for your baby (or other babies), advice is welcome!

Good idea!....just by some fabric on sale and sow the edges....
  • Go for it!! I would if I had a sewing machine but there's no way im going to hand stitch them all, I have no patience for that kinda thing.
  • Yeah, a burp cloth would be super super easy to make. Just cut out a square or rectangle in some cotton or soft flannel and stitch up the ends so it doesn't fray. You could embroider some cute stuff on it too :) I'm going crazy making baby stuff. I've made a fleece squid hat, a teddy bear, and right now I'm working on a panda hat with matching paw print gloves. I'm thinking of making a mobile and some stroller toys and I'm going to start making some mittens.

  • Yeah! Totally go for it! My grandma made me a bunccchhhh and gave them to me for my baby shower along with a blanket she made for me and my son(:
Im deff gonna use those burp cloths. They.re the same exact thing!
  • I always had to use cloth diapers for burp cloths for my girls since they spit up a lot. The really pretty ones just aren't absorbent enough for me. I'm having a hard time finding ones that aren't plain white, but I just came up with an idea of doing a little embroidery on the plain cloth diapers. I've seen a lot of stitch books with super cute stuff. I'm going to look into doing that.
  • I was thinking about doing something like this. and I'm a bit of a geek and was thinking about making a play mat periodic table. I love the idea of adding extra learning in a fun way. I say go for it girlie! I'm going to find a family member that isn't friends with their sewing machine anymore and will let me use it lol.
  • I would ! I make my liddle girly tutus :)
  • My grandma makes them for me and they look like a cloth diaper but cute Lol i would do it myself but i dnt have my sewing machine anymore she also made all my blankets for me
  • Yea, I saw that the flannel juat aren't as absorbent as cloth. So I'm deff going to do cloth.

Too bad I left my sewing maching in my mom's shed in tx, so hand stitch it is for me! I have plenty of time on my hands anyway, lol.
  • Lol hey I'm n tx...n I could use a sewing machine jkjk =) why not get her to mail it to u? I mean until then u could hand sew.
  • Cause I still have 2 boxes of stuff to mail that i couldnt when we moved (still cant) Both for sure going to cost a nice penny over $50 each. I'd rather be able to buy baby things than spend money shipping stuff. Lol.
  • Holy cracker jacks. Yea I say go with hand stitching. That way u can get really flippin awesome and be able to stich up anything like new! =)
  • @caroline8_p i always buy the big pk of gerber cloth diapers and use those for burp clothes and they work better
