  • I grew up in a heavily orthodox Jewish neighborhood and they are a very tight knit community. They have there own schools, buses, ambulances and police so seeing a 6 yr old walking alone with a four yr old isn't uncommon by any means. The fact that in a day they had folks coming from upstate new York and new jersey to be on a 24 hr search says a lot about their community. I mean at no means does that mean the little boy should have gotten into a car with another person but the fact that he was another Jewish man I believe had the boy believe it was ok bc within their community they are one. It's just sad to think bc it could have easily been any child but I think you need to know your child before you allow certain key responsibilities. My little sister started walking four blocks from school to home at 8. Within those 4 blocks she had to pass at least 2 family or friends home and my uncle home on disability life downstairs so she knew to check in with him before she went in upstairs. its just new york, we grow up faster in a lot of ways.
