spotting and cramping *update top*

edited August 2011 in Second Trimester
Hey ladies...Over the last few days I've been having more cramping than usual, but I've brushed it off as ligament pain. Today it was much sharper, mostly on the right side (the placenta is on the right). Last night I noticed that a piece of what looked like mucus had come out and I know that could indicate a change in my cervix (I am being monitored for the possibility of an incompetent cervix), but I wasn't too worried as it was only white. However, I just went to the bathroom a few minutes ago and when I wiped, there was bright red blood. At first I thought maybe it was from my bottom, but I wiped carefully and realized it was from my vag. It's only slight spotting, but I have no had any bleeding before this point. I've also had some increased pelvic pressure. I plan to keep an eye on it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried as we've had 2 first trimester miscarriages in the last year. If I continue to spot, I plan to head to the er.

Has anyone else experienced this? What are your thoughts?

*Went to L&D, no contractions and cervix is closed and doesn't appear to be bleeding. No infection and urine came back fine. ??? Sent home, now just confused.*

  • I have yes but never had a miscarriage, it happens to me because I have a bicornuate uterus (heartshaped)
  • @bahamamama4828 Thanks for replying!
  • I cant really be of any help, but I would suggest at least calling the hospital and seeing what they have to say. My theory on pregnancy related worries is its better to go get checked than sit at home worrying... The stress from worrying usually makes things worse and if there is a real issue better to know and get it sorted asap
  • @tinka1326 I can understand that, thank you. I think I will wait until morning to see if I'm still spotting. My son will be up in about 7 hours, so I will probably go in then.
  • No bleeding/spotting issues, but definitely the pressure and pelvic pain. My Dr told me not to worry about the pressure and pelvic pain unless I also had cramping. Since you're cramping and spotting I'd definitely call your on call Dr or l&d asap. Waiting 7 hours could be too late. Better to get your questions answered and be safe than sorry.
  • You should go straight in, it could be nothin but as someone who has religiously checked the toilet paper since day one if i saw any blood i would be straight on the phone! Good luck hope its nothing x
  • Momma I just sent you an email. This is the way my problem started and you need to get yourself to the hospital asap. Please Please let me know what they say if you go in. I am so worried about you!
  • Yes, please go to the hospital. Bleeding, cramping, and mucous can all be normal, but together, combined with the fact that you are being monitored for cervix issues is really concerning. If you catch it early enough, they may be able to stop it, but if you wait too long, you could lose your baby. Good luck!
  • Go to the hospital bleeding and cramping together could be normal or serious just to br safe I would get it cked out
  • Oh no! Go to the er now!!
  • Praying for you hunny! Hoping you went in.
  • @misskristin update hun is everything ok ?
  • Yes, go in. if I remember correctly, they were doing cervical length scans on you. You need to go in if anything is out of the norm. They will want to check your cervix. Hope everything is ok!
  • I have had lots of pelvic pain and pressure and cramping. My dr told me its normal unless there is bleeding. Then they want to know asap. I really hope you went in or are on your way. And I hope everything is ok.
  • Any updates?
  • bump for updates? hope everything is ok momma!
  • Hope everything is ok
  • Momma I have emailed you several times and tried to get you on here. I pray you are ok! I am in a panic now so please please let me know. If you cant get to pregly you have my email and I can let these ladies know. I am praying you got better and are enjoying time with nick and your son. Please let me know something... :-S
  • Please Please ladies pray for my friend! Her cramping is worse and she is going in now. I dont want her to suffer!
  • Sorry for the delay ladies & thank you @babynewyear2012! I am going in now, I hadn't had any spotting since last night & laid around doing nothing today, just taking it easy. I went to the bathroom a little bit ago and there was more spotting and I'm cramping rather intensely on the right. We are headed to the hospital for what must be the 7th time this pregnancy. I will keep you posted, thanks girls.

Missed the update at the top. Glad to see everything appears to be fine.
  • Glad you went in! :) I know going in just to be sent home with no real answers is a pain, but you never know if it's serious until you get checked. Ive been sent probably about 7 times my self and twice on my own. Hope your ob may have a better idea whats going on when you go to your follow up appointment .
  • @misskristin did they just do an internal exam? You may want to ask your doc to scan for length. Even though its closed, doesnt mean its not shortening.
  • @mrs4c The doc didn't recommend a follow up. Just to keep my ultrasound on Friday & my 24 week apt on Sept 19th. :/ I do not want another pelvic exam at this point as it was definitely uncomfortable. They are supposed to be doing another cervical length measurement on Friday, but for now I guess everything is ok. The doc was very nice and seemed confident, even said it was best that I came in to be checked. This was my first L&D experience at the hospital and I feel much more secure about it now than I did before. So that's at least good I guess.
