  • We love you so much! Little Evelynn is so flippin' cute. Glad she is getting extra good care, and hoping complications stay at a minimum. She looks so content to be on the outside now. :) I'm rooting for you two! Hope you are recovering well @Mythica. Many hugs and so much love.
  • How are you and baby Evelyn doing??? Anymore news :)
  • @mrs4c, I swear you read my mind! I was thinking about checking on them today as well. Hoping Evelynn is doing great and @mythica is healing well.

Hey ladies. :) Sorry I haven't been on! Things have been so crazy! The percocet that I've been taking and the Motrin have been totally kicking my butt in the sleep-inducing aspect. lol. Evelynn came out better than expected, and we're out of any immediate danger, but we're still waiting on test results.

She was born at 1:24 p.m. on August 25th, 6 lbs 4 oz, 18 inches long. She was immediately taken to the NICU, and I only got to see her for a few seconds right before they escorted her out with my mom. When I was taken to recovery in my room, they let me know that she was breathing on her own and didn't need any IVs or anything. That immediate danger was out of the way, but they wouldn't tell me much. My family came in to see me, and I was given morphine (that crap didn't do anything!!!) and I couldn't feel my legs for about 6 hours, as promised. Before the 6 hours were up, they said if I could keep food down they'd start giving me percocet and we'd get rid of the IV and catheter at the 24 hour mark. So 6 hours gone, my feet weren't numb anymore, so my nurse decided to help me up to walk. I made it to the bathroom and back, so they said I could go to the NICU to see her as soon as I ate dinner. But the drawback was: she was supposed to go get an MRI at some point during a time-frame. As soon as I was done eating, they said she was heading out and I couldn't go. So at the 8 hour mark I finally got to see her. They brought her to me on the way back from the MRI. Infants have to be sedated for MRIs because of the noises and all that from the machine. Ladies, I cried. She was hooked to so many monitor wires that I didn't know what to do. They didn't let me see her for long before they took her back to the NICU. 2 hours later I went to say goodnight to her (in a wheel chair, of course). She was still asleep, but they let me hold her til I was falling asleep. I went back to my room and was waking up every few hours. The next morning I woke up to my awesome nurse telling me that "since you're a NICU mom, I'd like to see you down there as much as possible." Then proceeded to be absolute awesomeness. lol. When I first got down there, she was awake... but screaming! They were pulling blood from her poor little wrists. :( They are still bruised from how many times they stuck her! But I spent all day down in the NICU, and she was transferred to her own private room. The next day, they called me to let me know that she'd be coming up to my room, but still under NICU care. We ended up staying an extra day, but SHE'S HOME! :D They let us come home on Monday (8-29-11)

She was diagnosed with Microcephaly. He said the ventricles in her brain are still dilated, but they don't know why. The MRI was inconclusive, but it did allow them to see that the problems are uniform across the brain, not just isolated to one area. The folds and creases in the brain are exaggerated, but they're not sure what that'll do to her. They're still saying there's a chance that she may be completely normal (just with a small head), but it's unlikely. The way I see it: She's beat the odds so far... They tested for Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 13 (chromosome problems that cause death before 1 year of life), and she tested negative for both of them in the preliminary results of the genetic testing.
