How was your induction experience?

edited September 2011 in Labor
I'm due Sept 18 & I have a strong feeling that my son won't arrive on his own. My doc said I have to schedule an induction date a few days or a week after my DD. So far, all induction stories I've read on here & have heard from friends don't seem too bad. Although, I have 1 friend who is scaring me to death saying that her sis-in-law went in for an induction & she was in labor for 2 days! Wtf!? Can you ladies please be honest with me? Is it really that bad? I accept all honest opinions, but personally I can't stand the way my friend just straight up tells me "DON'T GET AN INDUCTION!" when she hasn't even experienced it, but ONE person she knew has. I'm terrified now. :-(

  • Ive been told it can go 50/50. One persons body may not react from it and another person can have no problems with it. Ive heard both sides of it.

    Bump!
  • I loved my inductions! I've had 2 children, and 2 inductions. I like the planned aspect of it. I did have long labors but that's die to my girls being face up during labor but as soon as they turned it went very fast :)
  • I had an induction 2 days ago and it worked out very well for me!!
  • I had a great induction. I was in the hospital 24 hours before she was born, but 12 hrs was cervidil, which didn't hurt at all. It can really turn out good or bad, depending on a lot of factors. But my best advice for an induction is be as relaxed as you can and get an epi. You don't get any reward for doing pitocin without pain relief lol!
  • I Wanna Know Also Bcus Im Due The 19th But Im Getting Induced On The 20th
  • If your cervix is ready you can have a good induction. I was induced at 4cm dilated and 80% effaced. It was great! 6 hour labor...I now have a healthy 4 month.old :)
  • Im 100% Effaced & 2cm Dilated So Hopefully All Is Well :)
  • @everyone TY, it's nice to hear good induction stories. I feel a little better about it now.

@caiti5 That makes so much sense! Ty for the advice! That makes a lot of sense. I think I will set my induction date exactly a week from my due date then :-) Hopefully I'll be waaay more dilated by then!
  • My water broke and I was dilated or anything and wasn't having any kind of contractions for about 12hrs so I had to get induced. The whole process did take 29hrs felt like a life time but it really wasn't that bad the poticon does make contractions hurt like 10x worst but other than that it was fine. Don't let anyone scare you. Just go into it with an open mind, forget EVERYTHING anyone has ever told you and trust me you'll be fine. That's what I did. And I didn't really feel much pain either.
  • Mine sucked I was on pitocin for 2 days cervidil inserted for 12 hours...nothing I ended up in a c section
  • If u want to prep ur cervix you can start inserting prim rose oil capsules at like 37-38 weeks :)
  • @YAYA Thanks, you're right... gotta keep an open, positive mind about it. Out of 1-10, how would you rate how much it hurt when they gave u pitocin? Also, how long did u take to "push"?

@preggointx Yikes, were you dilated at all?

@Caiti5 Have u tried the primrose pills? I feel weird thinking of putting those inside me lol. Do they hurt? I feel like I'd rather force myself to walk a lot or do squats lol.
  • I didn't my friend did and it worked for her. You just put em in at night and go to bed! I walked like no other to get to where I was...like 3-4 miles a day.
  • @Caiti5 Good gracious! I end up with contractions & my calves hurting a lot by just making a round at the mall. Hmm, but it can't be a bad idea. I should probably do the same? :-/
  • When I got contractions I knew it was working! Lol.
  • Mine was a breeze :) but then again they just broke my water since I had been dilated to 5cms for over 2wks! My contraction took right off and she was born about 5 1/2 hrs layer. Best of luck! I heard the poticion made things worse do I'm glad I didn't have to get it :)
  • And as far as the evening primrose, I just took it orally since 36wks. I think it helped a lot :)
  • Mine was horrible! I was in labor for 40hrs! Had cirvadil, a fullybulb, lots of pitocin. They broke my water an db finally forced me to get an epi. It was not fun! I started off not dilated and not effaced though. Ive heard that if your body is making progress on its ownit goes a lot eaiser!

  • @Caiti5 lol... I'm going to walk a lot today & hopefully this weekend then!

@soontohavethree How much are the primrose pills? And where do u get them? Are they huge? I have a fear of taking huge pills lol. It takes me a couple gulps of water just to down my prenatal pills haha. I use the One A Day ones where u take 2 diff pills a day. I'm hoping to just have them break my water too w/o Pitocin, but I'll have to dilate on my own first -_- I'm 39wks on Sunday & only 0.5cm grr.

@pnsw524 Yikes! I'm sorry u had a bad experience. How far along were u when u got it done?

@erkieshavingagirl How much dilated were u when u got an induction? I agree, the more your body progresses on its own, the quicker & easier it is when u do get induced.
  • I have a high tolerance for pain so to me it was like a 5 maybe 6. I never cried or screamed the whole time. And I did 4 sets of pushes I believe.
  • @YAYA Ooh ok. My fam thinks I have a high tolerance for pain too lol. But idk why in the world they would think that when I feel like dying when I have contractions haha.
  • I was 40+5

  • I got them at Walmart. I think I paid $12 or so. They are about the same size of your prenatals. I took them like the directions said. One three times a day orally with food
  • Lmfao. Trust me when your actually in the moment it all goes away your more worried and anxious about getting the baby out. Because I swear I feel like the contractions were just period cramps and when I pushed him out I didn't feel a thing. It just felt like I was pulling a tampon out lol. I was pushing when they didn't want to I was just ready for him to get out. I even clapped when he came out.
  • I was scheduled for induction 9/6 my water broke on its own 130am 9/6 so I went to l & d around 3am...i was 1cm for 3 1/2 weeks. 90% effaced the previous friday. pitocin was started at 830am...I was only 2cm dilated by 930am...in loads of pain so I got stadol they made me wait for my epi til I was 4cm which was 1215 but felt like an eternity bc I was in extreme pain with the real contractions...then at 115 I was 9cm...my son was born @ 415 bc I needed to wait for him to be further in the canal as I wasn't feeling the pressure to push. I only felt pressure during pushing which i only pushed for 45 mins...and felt a huuuuge sense of relief when he came out. Overall it went really well and very quickly...I did get a 3rd degree tear almost a 4th but I don't think it hurts that bad as I recover.
