Question for working preglys

edited September 2011 in Pregnant
When are you planning on starting your maternity leave at work?
Next week I will be 30 weeks and work is taking a lot out of me, I was hoping to work till the first of October. I am due 11/25 but dr. Expects the twins early November.

  • Ask your doctor if he could put you on medical leave. That way you can also get disability pay and it could be a lot easier on your body. I've been on medical leave since June... I'm due November 9. My body hasn't taken to pregnancy very well.
  • I went on maternity leave 5 days before I had my son.
  • Dr won't let me until i go into labor or water breaks or if i develope pre-e
  • I planned on "until my water breaks" but I just found out you can take off 4 weeks before you're due so it might be sooner. I can easily call off shifts at my job though so we will see :}
  • @smcox I have an appointment tomorrow and I was gonna bring it up with her again, she had mentioned it before but I was thinking I was super woman working up to the day I went into labor....lol
  • I went on maternity leave yesterday because I was scheduled to get induced yesterday at 4:45. I'm 40 weeks 3 days.
  • @ashes I was thinking the same thing, and I can change shifts too at work (thank goodness) but I have sooo much swelling lately my cankles are sooooo not cute! I think it might be better to take it easy for a while
@steph_due_101611 That sucks! Maybe your job will allow you the time
  • @Bonita85 you go girl still working! What happened to inducing you?
  • My job allows it but dr has to approve it
  • I went on maternity leave on a Friday and had my daughter Monday morning lol but I have a sit down job so it wasn't bad. I would rather have more time with her then just sitting at home waiting cause I probably would have died of boredom
  • No need to be super woman! taking care of your body is much more important! no need to exhaust yourself till the end and have no break before your little angels come! cuz they will be a handful when they get here! I'm having a hard time lugging around one big baby... I can't imagine two! I commend you for working this long! I mean, I don't know what you do but my job is/ was very physical and was becoming dangerous to my baby, we need to do what's best for our little ones!
  • I'm still getting induced. I got here and they started the cervical which BTW was very uncomfortable getting. Dr started me with that because my cervix was still high and hard. In about 5hrs they are gonna take that out and start the pitocin if needed. Let me just say I hope the cervical is working because I have been feeling tons of contractions
  • @smcox I work claims for an auto insurance company so I sit a majority of the day, and by the time I leave my feet are soo swollen (bp is still good though) I have cut down a lot but I don't want to put extra stress on my body I don't want to have to be put on bed rest. And thanks, I have a great hubby that's gonna be off after the twins are born and a brand new never been slept in guest bedroom for my momma who will be off about 6 weeks to help too
  • @bonita85 wishing you a smooth labor!
  • I'm Due oct 12th working till sept 30th. I felt the same way a few weeks ago.... I was sitting at work thinking how ther hell can I make it till friday, but its gotten easier.

  • I'm working until Wednesday and being induced Thursday but for the past month I work in the office till noon go home and log in remotely and finish my day. But I have state auditors coming to visit Monday and tons of reports and such I can do from home. I will be working this weekend to wrap it all up.
  • So i might not be working after today. I might be having baby. Let's see how these tests go.
  • I dont get to start my maternity leave til i pop :(
  • @twinmamatobe I work as a waitress/server in a restaurant ... on my feet the whole shift :/ now though they have me on easy shifts so I only work 5 hours & with no break. But when I get off work/next day....omg! I have no ankles, feet, or toes....it looks like a leg extension. Grossss. And it's so hot I'm wearing flip flops, EVERYONE has to make a comment. :-S :-W like I don't KNOW they are swollen lol....
.....that's literally the only reason I want to take off work. I've had 4 days off in a row and I seriously thought I was going to die of boredom last night :(
  • I'm working till I pop, I'm a hairdresser on my feet all day. I'm due in two weeks! They are cutting my hours down for the next couple of weeks! Wish I could take off or just have this baby!!!!
  • I've been on maternity leave since 36/37wks. I figured it's enough time to clean more, organize & get rest. So far it has worked well for me. My job was a high end stressful office job, ugh lol. And I'm not bored at all during my leave. I have 9days til my DD & I always find little projects to do at home (i.e. finishing up detailing the nursery, organizing the house, working on my son's future scrapbook)

@twinmamatobe- I also work in the claims dept for an auto ins co. Although we do sit the majority of the day our job is stressful. I love my job and I kept telling myself I can makeit up until 9/16 which would give me 4 weeks prior to my due date at full pay through my employer. But unfortunately my bp started to get high, my dr finally took me off work 2 weeks ago @31weeks and wow I feel so relaxed I'm finally enjoying my pregnancy. It was getting too hard for me but I was also trying to be superwoman. My hubby kept telling me to go on maternity leave since the first time my bp went up but I didn't listen. My baby is way more important to me after a miscarriage I feel so blessed to have made it this far. Take care of yourself.
  • @ashes I feel you on the flip flops they are the only shoes that fit right now.

@JuliansMommy I had changed my hours so that I'm working 4 days with 3 off but 10 hour days have been kicking my butt. I'm glad you are feeling better, take care of yourself too!

@RizzyChicky I'm not worried about boredom either I can use the time to finish up the nursery and organizing

@everyone after my dr. Appointment today we are gonna go week to week and see how I feel but I'm pretty sure next week will be my last week, then its time to relax till my boys make their grand entrance!
  • Well I wanted to take the 4 weeks off before but I'm gonna try and just do 2 weeks before my due date cause I don't wanna sit around the house and do nothing. But since I'm on my feet the whole time its already getting hard I don't get to sit down unless its for a lunch break for a half an hour other then that I wanted to go until the end but now I can see there is no way
  • I'm not going on maternity leave until I go into labor unfortunately :-(
  • Last day of work Oct 5th and I'm counting down ill be 35 weeks and don't plan ob making it past 37 due to all my health issues.
