anyone know how to STOP contractions??

edited September 2011 in Pregnant
I've been in labor for 51 hours with contractions not stopping...im only 31 weeks so I want baby to stop but I also want to be pain free....

Here is my situation

I am on antibiotic drip to insure that I don't get an infection, so I know they aren't caused by that.

I stay hydrated.. I drink at least 92oz of water a day, plus I get an iv drip of fluids twice a day (once in the morning and once at night)

I am on strict bedrest, don't even get to get up to go pee..

Any ideas of natural things I can do or try to stop these??

  • Thanks @ash1la the doctors have already said they wont do anything to stop it so I need to try and get them to stop on their own!!
  • Good luck and prayers to you on whatever the outcome is.....God Bless you and baby.
  • @homebirthadvocate im sure im one of the only ones who are desperately trying to stop it ha... my dulua is all out of ideas its just me now.. I just talk to the baby all the time and tell it not to come yet... I think the fact I've refused when they have asked to check if I was dilated these past few days have really helped them not get closer.
  • @2ndbutfirst ill put my water in fridge for a while drink it and lay on my left side as long as possible.. I've been in this bed for months so I can only do each position for so long.
  • Freezer not fridge
  • oh hun i am stumped! Sorry but i will bump!! good luck and prayers! :)
  • Ask ur doula about cramp bark tincture...not sure if she would know about it but as a midwife we offer it for overactive uterus...I'm in the process of learning about herbs

  • @homebirthadvocate I have agreed to let them do a cervical ultrasound and possibly check to see if im dialted tomorrow IF my contractions have not stopped, just because it will be 60 hours of labor and I don't want baby to go into distress again, or to be put back on oxygen that was scary!
  • ok here r some things i read:

    *Empty your bladder
*Lie down tilted towards your left side; this may slow down or stop signs and symptoms
    * Avoid lying flat on your back; this may cause the contractions to increase
*Drink several glasses of water because dehydration can cause contractions

    and another article:

Benadryl, cell salt (mag phos), rescue remedy, valerian, vodka, checking for urinary infection (get it treated), and a moist heating pad on mom's lower abdomen, right above her pubic hair. Also if baby is breech or in another malposition that is stimulating the cervix, I give pulsatilla to get the baby moved. I also use bed rest with baby's head off the cervix. Calcium with magnesium also may work. Humor and prayer can work well too.

A doctor in the town where I work (I am an RN, not CNM) advises his patients to drink one or two glasses of red wine if they are having contractions. I do not know the efficacy of this, but I do know we don't get very many of his patients coming in in preterm labor.

And the of course take it easy and relax if you can!! %%-
  • @mamato2boys thanks for the tips... I have a catheter so my bladder is always empty Haha.. im a recovering alcoholic, and I don't like the idea of drinking when im pregnant so those are out...ill try the heating pad though I haven't heard that one! Thank you!!
