went and saw a lactation consultant ....
I was at WIC today, and I went to see their LC. She asked me what my problems have been with bf. Told her my story....baby would latch, eat for 15-30 sec then unlatch, get frustrated and it would keep repeating. She just wasn't that interested in bf. So I started using breast flow bottles, pumping, and supplementing what I couldn't pump with formula. Then the LC basically told me the baby probably won't breast feed now, since she's been on bottles for two weeks. She didn't even tell me to try and breast feed or to bring my baby in to try and help me get her to breast feed. She only talked to me for 3 minutes and sent me on my way....I've heard everyone say how amazing LC's are with helping babies bf and how they really know what they're doing. I'm sure most are amazing. But that wasn't the case with me. I'm really disappointed in the appointment...I thought she was going to help me or give me some tips....but no. So now I'm just going to try and increase my supply with the fenugreek pills and mothers milk tea. I'm just really defeated with breast feeding...and this is never how I wanted it to be.

@bahamamama4828 I just don't know what to do...I have a book that tells me how latch and positions and I do them but it still doesn't work. I don't know if I'm doing it right. I don't know how to get her to stay on and eat and not un latch. Yeah, I was surprised that she didn't really try and help me. Okay, great. I'll take any info I can get! I wish you were in my area!
@jazzi89 I wish my daughter would do that! What is the let down?
@preggointx My hospital gave her a bottle without asking me I wanted skin to skin and be able to breast feed her from the beginning, but she had to go to the nicu. So they just bottle fed her, and then my husband told me after he came back from seeing her.
@snreda does your son latch, eat a little, and then unlatch?
@jazzi89 I'm not sure if its too fast for her...she doesn't choke. Sometimes I think she's not getting enough or not getting it fast enough and then she just gets upset.
@snreda I did buy a nipple shield but it didn't work, my nipple wouldn't go all the way up in the shield, so when she'd suck she wouldn't get anything. I guess I just have to small of a nipple for the shield....or I'm not using it right.
Try squeezing your breast like a cow until you see some milk at your nipple. Then place her kind of between a 45 and 90 degree angle. Help her latch on to your nipple. If she gets off, redirect her back on. Make sure her nostrils are still open to air or she can't breath and will delatch. If your flow is too fast, you just have to push under her nose by your areola to slow it.
Keep putting her to breast. It's frustrAting but if you want it, sit there with her for 30 minutes and keep trying.
About the shield, the medela is the best. It's the most natural. Your nipple won't go all the way too the top. Get your milk on your -nipple then invert the shield and put it on. It really does help.
And last, there's nothing wrong with supplementing if you need to. But whatever breast milk you can give her, even mixed with formula, for as long as you can is best for her.
