So.. I am getting my gallbladder removed today due to gallstones.
Does anyone knows what I should eat after surgery? And how long does the recovery takes?

  • Eat healthy foods. No fast food or greasy foods for at least a few weeks. I had mine removed almost 6 years ago and still to this day i have to watch how much greasy foods i eat. Good luck!
  • @mommyb3 aww so no pizza for a while then :( that sucks
  • I have had several tell me to eat a low fat diet for @ least 2wks. The dr told me I could go straight back to a regular diet, which I did and now everything I eat just sends me to the bathroom.
my recovery time to awhile, but I had developed an infection which landed me in the hospital 4 a wk, it took 2 days of antibiotics and then emergency surgery to remove mine bc I was stubborn and refused to have it taken out.
  • I avoided anything spicy or fatty for a month but recovery wise I was back at work 2 days later.
  • I got married and partied it up a week after my surgery! I was also eating normal by my wedding. I just took it easy on food that was greasy for 4/5 days!
  • I was sick with an infection afterwards but once I started feeling better I slowly introduced normal foods in my diet. I eat whatever I want now but just be warned if you eat a lot of high fat foods all at once you will have wicked diarrhea

I am so glad to know that it doesnt take too long :), woohooo
  • Can any of you describe what a gallbladder attack feels like? I think I may be having problems. The other night I had a sharp pain start between my shoulder blades. It got worse and worse then it migrated around to my chest. It felt like my rib cage was closing in. It hurt to breathe. After about 7 minutes it went away.
  • @Janet_2011
yep sorry no pizza. Hope you heal better then i did!
  • @octmommy sounds like it to me. The only way I can describe it for me was it was like somebody was putting me in a visegrip or a really hard bearhug. I would break out in a cold sweat then vomit (sorry tmi). Mine would last anywhere from 2hrs to 24hrs.
  • @3girls_0boys yea I started sweating. My gosh I couldn't imagine it lasting that long! The pain was awful. I'm gonna tell my doc at my appt. today. I just hope it won't continue after pregnancy.
  • It does mine didn't start until a wk b4 I had my oldest and see is 7 now, and I didn't have it removed until my 2nd daugther was 8 months old. I am so thankful that I did remove it bc I got to the point that even crackers was trigger an attack.
  • Yes do not eat too many fatty foods, and if you do, know where the closest bathroom is. Keep your scars cleaned, mine got super infected. But other than that you should be fine. Praying all goes well hun!
  • %%%%% UPDATE %%%%%%

So I had my surgery and it was a sucess :) I hate the food they started me on to introduce food into my system again, but is all good.. I had it like 5-6 hours ago and I am still drowsy :( ugh.
  • Glad to hear u are doing well! U will not regret taking it out! Its not true that u have to watch what u eat, my doc told me to ear whatever if it didnt bother me and I was fine! Ate tacos the day after lol
