Does bouncing on the ball really help?

edited October 2011 in Pregnant
I'll b 38 wks on Sunday and I have been bouncing and rotating my hips FOR HOURS. Nothing is happening, except my lower back is starting to hurt.

Has this actualyl worked for anyone, or am i just wasting my time? Thanks!

  • Where can u get th ball
  • It helped for me, it helped baby to engage an then relieved pain when I was in the early stages of labour. It also helped when I felt uncomfortable.
  • U can get it at Walmart its a joga ball :)
  • Im 36 weeks and it helps me with pain.
  • It doesn't actually put u into labor it helps the baby drop down into position which could in turn help thin and dialaye ur cervix cause of the pressure
  • It helped me when I was in labour, I bounced on it for 5 mins, pain got too bad so I got back on the hospital bed, got a pain and then my waters went and my baby girl was born 1hr later. If I hadnt used the ball it probably would of been a couple of hours longer :-)
  • i hadnt thought of using it for pelvic pain too may have a go this week :)
  • It helped me
  • So stupid question? I just deflated my exercise ball and don't have room for a big ass ball. Can't I just bounce my butt on the couch?
  • @nmartinez79 I was wondering the same thing. The principal seems to be movement while in a upright position. Does it really matter if its on a ball?
  • I did see on another thread awhile back that people were bouncing on the edge of their beds.

My ball was like $13 @ Walmart several years ago.
  • Ya I might have to do that my ball is way too big
  • I believe it has to so with the engagement of the deep pelvic floor muscles which u would have to use on a ball BC its not stable in Any direction , a bed or couch is stationary so biomechanically I don't see it having the same effect
  • Yup ur squatting on the ball hi don't squat on the couch lol
