I don't know what to do...

So we just moved into our apartment on Sept 1st. After about 2 showers I noticed that there were some black spots on the ceiling in the shower. I didn't think anything of it but then more of them kept popping up. Turns out it is black mold. There is A LOT of it in the shower now which is so nasty! So I called the landlord on the 3rd of this month and told her about it and she said she would get back to me when she would be able to get out here to look at it. She never did. So this weekend after my baby shower I was putting clothes in the babies closet and I happen to look up and what do I see? MOLD in her closet! I am so pissed off! She also has a sliding glass door in her room to the back yard and the door was all wet with condensation like the whole door not just in the corner I looked down and in the track of the door is the same black mold. Ugh all her stuff is in there I don't want it in there!
Anyway I called the landlord yesterday left and message and she didn't call me back so i called her today and I said did you get my message? all she said was yea and so i was like ok and? and she said her husband would be back in town tomorrow and she would call me tomorrow to let me know when she would be able to come look at it. If she doesnt' wall me tomorrow im gonna flip.
My mom said chances are we will need to move. We can't live with the mold and I WILL NOT bring a baby in this house with mold. Plus my fiance is allergic to it he has been sick sence we moved in.. BLAH I am 31 weeks prego I don't wanna move again but I don't know what she is going to do the mold is bad I have a feeling it isn't an easy fix.

  • Call her every day! get it dealt with! most likely you will have to move though at least until its dealt with. Idk what the laws are there but here the landlord has to move you into a safe place and pay for it too while the problem is dealt with
  • Do some research find out who to contact about it. here its called ministry of housing
  • I will have to look that up. My mom was telling me to look up renters rights
  • Yes do it asap!
  • Find out your rights so you know how to go about it. Call a lawyer if necessary. Most of them do free consultations so you should be able to get some advice.
  • I looked online and it says that she will need to pay for everything to get it fixed. It doesnt say she would need to pay for somewhere for us to stay tho while it is being fixed. We will see what happens. I am very sad I like the apartment and dont want to move but I dont want to stay here with it.
I go to the doc next monday I am going to talk to her and have her give me a doc note saying I can't be around it to get this women on the ball here Enough is enough fix the problem!
  • I know it isnt your responsibility to fix but bleach will kill the mold. Atleast so you aren't breathing it in until she gets the damage fixed.
  • Right that what my mom was saying. I just want to make sure she sees the mold everywhere because I have my fiance clan it.
  • I got mold in one of my apartments after a lot of rain. They ended up having to tear out the walls and replace the sheetrock. They let me out of my lease there and gave me the option to move into a different unit, so I did. My son was about 9 months at the time, and as an ex preemie got sick easily. Better to be safe and get out of there even if it means moving. And if the landlord is that non-responsive to your problems, it may be a blessing in disguise. Try to stay away from it in the mean time.
  • I want to keep her bedroom door open only because I dont want all her stuff to start to smell or get mold on it itself. I try to keep the bathroom door closed but when we go in there then it smells HORRIBLE! :-( I hope we can find something soon I only have 9 week left!
  • Black mold is suuuuuper bad for you, and it is actually illegal for her to rent out the residence if she is aware of its existence.
  • Right! @captainMorgaine But there is no way to actually prove that she "knew" about it before I moved in. I am pretty sure that she did know though because the ceiling in the bathroom and in the babys room closet there are different tones of white paint. Which means she probably just cleaned it off and painted over it.. GRRR she better call me tomorrow like she said she would.
Now I am having cold like symptoms but the weather did change so that could be it but for all I know it could be the mold I don't want it to harm my unborn child!
