C section

edited November 2011 in Third Trimester
So at our appointment yesterday the Dr. says he thinks my wife has a small pelvis and wants to do a c section now. He says that since her mom and her grandma had a c section that my wifes chances are very high that she will need one anyways. He says he doesnt want her to go through hours of labor just to have to do a c section anyways.

  • If she wants a c-section she should have it. It is much better if you need a section if you have it planned and not being an emergency situation or when she is so tired from labor. I had a emergency section and it was painful trying to heal because of the long labor I had. If she doesn't mind a section then encourage her...its not nearly as scary as people make it out to be. Good luck!
  • @ babymommaof2 yea we decided to go ahead with the c section. Healthier for mom and baby. My wife was very dissapointed about it tho so that was hard.
  • I'm glad she decided to do a csection, I went through 20+ hours of labor and I ended up with a csection. It was horrible to go through all that pain.
  • Good thing your dr noticed it, I was in labor 26 hrs only to have a c-section & the dr told me I had a narrow/small pelvic bone & could push my baby out anyway!
  • If they think she needs a c-section for for it. My doc wanted to do a c-section but I wanted to do it natural. I ended up having to be induced a week after my due date. Labor was 30+hrs for me & ended up in a c-section because he wouldn't settle in my pelvis. Honestly, if I would've known that a c-section isn't as bad as it seems I would've taken it. Now if I have any more kids I'm definitely requesting a c-section. Recovery is quick. Good luck to you & your wife :D
  • i had a c section after 73.5 hours of labor and ended up getting a infection due to the long labor then got on antibotics that gave the baby thrush and then had to have insecion drained and ended up on more antibotics that made me really sick throwing and a c section is horrible. i also had a small pelvic bone and babys head never dropped.
  • Thanks for the input everyone...has anyone been told that they are most likely to have a c section?? I have so many things running thru my head.. I really didn't want to have a c section. As of now I feel like I will get no where and be pregnant forever..so I'm kinda glad I scheduled a c section but then again wonder if I really need one!! If anyone has any thing similar happen pls share!
  • Some instances require a c section, others do not. My sil was told if she gets prego again that her doc would insist on it. She had severe problems with blood pressure that they were scared she was going to stroke out on labor. Her last labor almost ended in emergency c section because my niece was huge and she was so small on top of blood pressure and incredibly long labor.
  • Yea and I understand that, as of now my bp has always been good and everything else...I am small I guess you could say and everyone has been saying this baby looks big for me..I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing I guess...ill be 38 weeks Sunday and I was only a fingertip dilated and thick and she hasn't dropped as far as I know. I'm a ftm so I'm just so confused!!
  • Not related to your question but I think we have the same due date.
    Nov 20th?
  • Yes we do, although I'm scheduled to have a c section on the 15th.
  • There are 5 of us now with the same due date! Good luck on the c section hun im sure everything will go smoothly :-)
  • My Dr said the same thing....and knew baby was big. She didn't give me an option ...I was upset but knew was for the best!
  • Thanks. I hope its the right thing.
