I'm getting discouraged today was Jocelynns 2 week appt and she still hasn't gained weight or gotten back up to her birth weight. She's latching on perfect and eating every 2-3 hours poops and pees are perfect, milk supply is amazing, I don't understand, this is the one thing I wanted to do.. and doc said if she isn't gaining weight by next week I need to supplement..

  • My baby did the same thing. She dropped 8 ounces then after 2 weeks she started gaining. Hopefully your baby will gain, gain, gain this week.
  • I would just keep breastfeeding, it sounds like you're doing everything right. Just feed on demand as much as she wants. My daughter is almost 14 wks and has more than doubled her birth weight on breast milk :)
  • My daughter has a really hard time gaining weight while on breast milk. At her 4 month appointment she still hadn't doubled her birth weight. My husband has had a hard time gaining weight his whole life so that's where my daughter got it. Don't give up.
  • @1stwoodsbaby @navybabyonway @starrxoxo9 thanks guys, yeah I talked to my mom and she said my sister and I did the same. The doctors just try to make you feel bad. She said not to give up & that she isn't starving, my mom said it took a few weeks for both of us to gain weight and to not listen to the doctor about supplementing with formula bc its not necessary. :) I'm glad I have a pharmacist as a mom. And being a mom myself if I felt something was wrong I would use formula, but honestly I feel my baby is fine. A lot better now. Last week (her first week of life) breastfeeding was a struggle and I was concerned, but now its amazing and her jaundice has come down a lot. She was in the danger zone.
  • dont give up! I hate how everyoneis so quick to suppliment! I tell people to keep there opinions to themself im doing this get over it :) breastfeeding moms need more support from docs and everyone else!
  • If she's having enough bm and wet diapers she should be eating just fine..just keep feeding on demand :)
  • @moodymommie & @nameless thanks! I don't want to supplement, especially since I don't think anything is wrong.

@teeniemommy my lil man lost so much weight in the hospital that I freaked out n decided to bottle feed. I feel better seeing how much he's eating. Damien has jaundice as well... how long did it take your princess to start doing better? He's on the border of being dangerous but on the good side of the border... it really worries me. I hope all goes well
  • @damiens_mommy keep him in the light and feed every 3 hrs, my lil girl got better after a week, it goes away on its own & is very common nothin to freak about. :) trust me a cried thinking I was doing something wrong but doc said not to worry.
  • You're so right. If she is having a good number of wet/dirty diapers and not crying after feedings she isn't starving. She'd let you know if she was.
  • I breast feed my baby girl but she does get a few ounces of formula a day, today she had about 2oz. Her pediatrician tried to yell at me for giving her formula, but another dr in his office said its fine. Especially when she seen how hungry she still was after nursing. She was starving. Also she had dropped 11oz in the hospital at the time. She's 4wks now and feels like a cow. At 2wks she wasn't back up to her birth weight yet, i think the formula has helped her.
  • Yeah but my daughter is satisfied after feeding ? And she hasn't lost any, she's just stayed the same as when she checked out of the hospital which is a few ounces different then her bw. She isn't starving, or she would let me know. @steph_due_101611
  • Yay for breastfeeders!
  • most docs use the formula fed baby growth chart, not the breastfeeding one. bfed babies gain differently than formula fed. and alot of docs arent trained in lactation :)
hope this helps that you might show the doc next time?
