edited November 2011 in Babies Health
My daughter is 2 weeks and I notice she's get ugly sticky boogers in her eyes first it was on one now its on both. It makes it hard to open her eyes. Does this mean she's getting sick? How can o make her better?

  • My daughter had that and it was from a blocked tear duct. I would just clean it with a warm face cloth. Hers cleared up in a few weeks.
  • She might have a blocked tear duct. I know that causes eye boogers.
  • My baby is 2 weeks and just got them too!! I was wondering the same thing! So glad we are not alone!
  • Use a wet cotton ball, swipe from inner eye outwards. Use a NEW cotton ball EACH swipe to prevent bacteria from staying.
  • Yay you all just anwsered a question I was going to ask :)

  • It's like a white cloudy color
  • I actually just saw someone at church who said blocked tear duct! She said to massage it with a wet cotton ball. Similar to what Chelsea_firstbaby said.
  • Yep, blocked tear duct. My 5wk old has 2. Only wash with warm wash cloth. There is some meds to.keep them from getting all sticky and I only paid $4 for prescriptions at Walmart. It's like a baseline type that you rub on eyes 3 times a day.

I got a home remedy from my coworker and I checked with my sons pediatrition before doing it. I boiled chamomile tea once it was warm I dipped a wash cloth in it and I massaged from inner eye outwards. I did it maybe 2 times the same day he got it and it cleared the very next day:)
  • im with blocked duct too, my baby has it as well..i massage many times a day with a warm cloth or massage with breastmilk (if youre nursing) :)
  • My son have that and he's 6wks now his pediatrician gave me some eye drops for him its getting better
  • My sis is a pediatric nurse and when my baby had that she said to massage the inner eye on a circle towards the nose. Don't use a cotton ball because there's a chance of part of it getting in the eye. They can give a prescription called Vigamox its eye drops that helps too. But ya its just a blocked tear duct probably.
