unwanted opinions!

edited December 2011 in Pregnant
Can anyone give me a polite way of shutting people up with opinions on how to bring up my baby!? I am getting told to leave baby to cry it out, he is one month old and usually just wants feeding so i don't agree and told i need to give baby bottles of water but don't agree with that either as breast feeding so i know he gets what he need from there, also these opinions a from people who not had baby for 30 years, mum mum in law etc so annoying!

  • Just smile "politely" & say..."I got this!"
    Lol
  • When people started telling me things like that I told I know what I am doing and if they kept on I said one of two things. Yea well I want my kids to love me or where are your kids now? I got angry lol
  • Find shit online that says don't let baby cry it out. Why you can't give baby water till a year old. Or of its family take them to a Dr apt with you and ask the Dr. It shut people up in mu family. Things change so much in 30 years. My mother in law put my son on his side in his crib I found proof why he can't go on his side. O brought her with me to the Dr and she asked the Dr why he can't have water. And I found proof of why he eats so much and what the different eatings for babies mean like cluster feeding etc. Good luck its tough when everyone thinks they have a right to parent your child.
Oh if you don't have time to look things up or what not say "as I value your opinion as a parent and an elder or whatever this is my child my chance to make my own mistakes and unless I need advice I would really like to do this my way. Thank you. "
  • I hate this as well and I've not even had my baby! Its the unwanted advice...I hope your doing this, you should be doing that, I hope your not eating that....it gets on my nerves!!! I just say..."when I found out I was pregnant I did as much research as I could on what I should and shouldn't be doing so thanks, but mind your own" :-)
  • My hubby and I both just say 'thank you for the advice, we will take it into consideration.' or 'thats interesting but we have chosen to do it this way.'

  • I say I'm glad that worked for your child
