Why do people have to be so ignorant? NPR

So I was sitting outside tonight with my neighbor from across the street and had my dog Cash tied to my chair on his leash. Let me just point out at the begining that Cash is a Pit Bull... Well, I live in a four-plex so my next door neighbors door is literally right next to mine. As we were sitting out there their company walked out the door and Cash barked at him. I told Cash not to bark and that everything was fine. Well clearly Cash intimidated the guy because when he walked back in their house he claimed to my neighbor that Cash almost attacked him and I heard her reply that Cash wouldn't hurt him he was just excited. So before the guy leaves their house for good he has the nerve to talk s**t about my dog trying to attack him? Wth? Cash was no where near him, was on a leash, and simply barked on his own side of the property! I'm tired of people acting like just because my dog is a Pit Bull that he is a monster. Of he didn't like people I would save myswlf the law suit and not allow him to be out with me! Sorry so long, just needed to vent because I am beyond irritated.

  • I hear u! I SOOOOO hear u!!! It's like puppydog racism, or poochy stereotyping! Such bullshit! I am so sorry people are so stupid!
  • It is! It is so irritating. My dog is a big baby honestly. Lol. My neighbor knows my dog and know's that he isn't aggressive just over excited and the guy still decided to be an a**. So irritating!
  • I hear you! I've always had pitbulls and never once had any reason to be worried. They are beautiful, more loyal than most breeds and great with children. My husband got a pitbull pup for our first Christmas together and while he was deployed I got jumped outside my apartment. Normally I came home, walked spike, put him in the house then checked the mail as the mailbox was right across the breezeway in front on the apartment. Well, that night I didn't and I had let spike's leash out so he could sniff around the corner. The Guy grabbed me and spike attacked. He pulled the Guy's pants right down and he was wearing a thong banana hammock.( I have never laughed so hard in my life). Anyway, my neighbors heard the commotion and came out to see him trying to hold on to me and keep from falling over with spike pulling on his pants. He let go, spike let go. BUT! Then the idiot called the police to report a vicious dog attack. After me and my neighbors talked to the cops the report was dropped and I filed charges of my own!
  • I think for people like my who are dog lovers... Well wait I do love my cousins toy poodle from a distance... But people like me who have never had a dog for a pet, didn't grow up around dogs and never had a relationship with one.. we tend to be jumpy out of ignorance.

I swear every dog I see wants to eat me alive and half the time they're not even paying attention to me.

In this case this guy is a big ass.exaggerator ... I mean big!
  • You have to understand there are so many bad owners who don't take the time to properly train & socialize their pit bulls, so most peoples knee jerk reaction is fear. My dog & I were attacked by a pit once & it scared the holy hell out of me. The pit bull grabbed my dog by the throat & ripped it open. The stupid lady who had the dog was like oh I'm sorry he's usually so sweet, but obviously he wasn't. My dog had to have surgery. Since then, I carry mace because it freaked me out & I won't let that happen, again. Now whenever I see a pit bull, I get out my mace & have it ready just in case. I try to tell myself that they aren't all bad, but because I had a bad experience with one I just don't like them.
  • @frantastic my pit was attacked by a pug. You might want to get your mace out around pugs too.
  • @everyone I totally understand how someone would use caution around him or any dog for that matter, but he was right next to Cash's door step and he barked. That's his job to let me know you are there, you know? He literally barked and I told him No and had him sitting right next to me. It was just annoying, but I can understand that he intimidates people (He just turned a year old and is 80lbs) but don't act like my dog and I are the devil because we were outside and he barked to let me know you were there.
  • I love pit bulls, they are good dogs. It's all about how they are raised. All dogs bark lol
  • People are ignorant. Ive only owned pitbulls. We had 2 when we moved to where we are now. The lot owner was an ass & complained about the everyday! She had some new rule for us to follow with them every week. We eventually had to give them away because of the bs! She actually found out that she knows my bf & now shes all nice to us..but I still dont like her ass & she knows it!
  • Ive been attacked by a dog. Almost broke my arm and if it wasnt for my thick snow coat and sweater he would have ripped my arm up too.
Want to know the breed? ,
    A yellow lab!
All pitbulls that I have ever known were so friendly and gentle.

Nothing against pitbulls!...BUT if a pitbull barked or growled at me I'd be scared too! :-S I mean come on they are huge! Even my small Boston Terrier barks and growls at people she does not know and it scares some of them so I can just imagine a big dog.
  • @YNVTish I'm with you there girl I'm scared of any dog and u swear there all plotting against me! B-) I*
  • Implying pits are the only dogs that attack is like saying a certain race is the only kind to rob houses and carry a gun. Ignorant.it's not the dog, it's the owner.
  • Thanks for all the comments ladies! I just couldn't believe how ignorant he was over it. If my dog was at all aggressive you best believe he would NOT be around my children.
  • @wantingababy my son actually has a scar across the bridge of his nose from a Pug biting him!
  • sorry to say butt im scared of pit bulls : (
  • Ughh i hate this whole thing against pits. Im pretty sure its dalmations that bite the most ppl per year (or at least it was) but u never hear anything about them... Mabe if pits werent so obedient(sp?) And loyal, they wldnt b so easy to train or mold into w.e the owner wants them to be whether it be a fighter or a family member its the owner, not the breed.
  • People get bit by dogs not by breeds.
  • @wantingababy In no way was I saying Pugs are horrible dogs, I was just relating that my son was bite by a Pug also. My mom has three pugs and they are definately little cuddlers. Lol.
  • @outnumbereredbyboys (your name is so long lol) I know what you mean my gf has a pug and its the sweetest dog.
  • We have a 4# tea cup chihuahua that bites everybody! She goes after the mailman, kids on bikes, people coming in the house... total mean b!sch! NOBODY complains about her BUT our German Shepherd and Boxer are treated like vicious dogs! Both are sweet n cuddly, never bite but because they bark and like to jump at the back fence people assume they are mean! Two houses down a woman let her small dogs out and they came in our fence. Our shepherd rolled one dog around some (didn't bite it or even hurt it) and she pounded on the door screaming! She opened the gate, picked up her dog, kicked at my dogs and they never growled or attacked but she called them in for aggressive animals. Sorry to vent on your vent but doggy racism has our dogs on shock collars and raised our fence to a 8ft privacy.

  • @mommyof4boys but is a chihuahua going to do the same damage as a pitbull? If a chihuahua attacked me I'd simply kick it off, if a pitbull attacked me I'd be in pretty bad shape. They are very intimidating because of size and personality.
