need help latching

We need help he ends up hurtting me when he latches. And my nipples are white when he comes off or if even my shirt is up againist them. Is this normal? Anyone have any tips to get baby to latch better? Or how to get him to open his mouth really wide?

Cup your breast with the opposite hand in the shape of a 'C'. Get as much of your areola in his mouth as you can. Sometime babies 'play' and aren't really eating. -This will tear your nipples up! Watch underneath his earlobe, if it isn't going deeply up and down, he is playing or pacifying.

@fate I try to put as much in as I can but he comes back off it the only way I can explain is he is nursing off my like I'm a bottle and is only sucking the nipple that's what it feels like and its pure torchure! I see it moving (under his ear lobe)

@ta2edblondie ive tried pulling at his chin and he gets mad and fights me and I only tried thee nose thing once he didnt react so I didn't try again lol

Have you tried different positions? Try the football hold. That's how I got Bentley to latch as a newborn. Put a pillow or boppy on your side and lay baby on your side like you're cradling a football. Take the hand on the opposite side of baby and place it behind his head to rest on. Then with your hand that's on the side with baby, squeeze a little milk out, rub it on his lips to interest him. When he goes to open his mouth, roll your nipple and areola into his mouth, top to bottom. That's how I finally got Bentley to latch. He had a short frenulum and we got it clipped then I had to reteach him how to latch. I hope that helps!

I think you should try the shield. It will help him latch, hence, NO PAIN.

U Can YouTube how to get my baby to latch and some very helpful videos pop up!! That's what I did! And I also did Like bentleysmommy and did the football hold. Different positions help with using different parts of ur nipple. And make sure his lips aren't curled under.
