Breastfeeding help

edited January 2012 in Breastfeeding
Ok I know there is a lot of info on this topic already but I need help...I only pump bc my son has never gotten the hang of latching on...I try everyday still but nothing. But now I am only getting half an oz every 3 hrs...if that. I am drinking mothers milk tea and taking fenugreek. I even pump for 10 min after milk stops coming out. Idk what else to do. Lil man hates formula and spits up non stop when I have to feed it to him and I've tried 6 diff kinds including soy. Helppppp lol

I'm having the exact same issue but I'm only taking fenugreek. I didn't get to have her try to latch on as much in the hospital because I had to go to ICU after my csection and they gave her formula, she started with reg similac now she's on similac for gas and fussiness... I even tried the nipple guard with no Success...
  • Yea I tried the nipple shield and that works for like 5such minutes but that's it...what does oatmeal do?
  • My son took forever to figure out how to latch. I thought he would never get the hang of it. Try drinking a beer before bed. I'd never heard of it before until pregly, but I tried it and it really does work. I think it has to be a dark beer.
  • Look up goat milk formula recipe. Goats milk is the closet thing to human milk. My friend give that to her son. Cause she couldnt keep up and he can handle cow milk
  • Hmm alright I will look into that goats milk thing. Do any of yall know a good dark beer? Im a budlight lover myself but I tried that and it didn't work
  • Keep trying the nipple shield at every feeding. If baby will do it for 5 min it will get better. I had to do that and it took 3 weeks lol
  • You can just get brewers yeast pills! Thats what helps from the beer
  • Pump more often. Take your fenugreek with blessed thistle. Eat steel oats. Up your water/protein intake.
  • And brewers yeast. I second the goats milk
  • Ive gotten my supply back up by taking fenugreek (4 capsules 3 times a day) & Blessed thistle (3 capsules 3 times a day) I drink mothers milk tea 3 times a day and also eat oat meal in the morning also pumping and putting baby to boob every 2 hours this has increased my supply greatly I seen you say he doesn't latch well. My son didn't either until just recently he is almost 8 weeks. I didn't give up and kept putting him to my breast no matter how bad it hurt, & i have raynauds its painful but don't give up. Keep putting him to the breast he will get it sooner or later. Here are a few sites that helped me when i was so close to giving up recently. I had put my son on formula for 2 days and i hated every min of it! He hasn't been on it since ive had at least 3 bottles in the fridge as back up since. & that was last week. It can take up to 2 weeks for you to see your supply build back up at least that's what i read, it worked for me sooner. I hope you can up your supply.

    Oops
  • Thanks everyone...great information I didn't know about...im guessing I can get the brewers yeast from a health and vitamin store? I actually just got done drinking my fourth glass of that nasty tea lol and I've been power pumping for a couple hrs ...I hope I get it back up. I told myself when I had to have a c section that I might not have been able to succeed at pushing him out but I was darn sure gonna succeed at breast feeding so I am one determined mommy lol
  • Make sure you're getting a couple pumps in during the night. Boobs like to be pumped between 3am and 5am. Rub your boobs BEFORE you pump so they get the signal to let down. You will get it! I knowwwwwww exclusively pumping is HARD. Baby's sucking stimulates much better milk production. Trust me, your boobs will give in to your demands eventually!
  • Weston has colic and his "bad hr" is from 3am to 4am so I try to feed as soon as he wakes up then I pump then feed him what I pump then put him to sleep and pump once more before I go to sleep...I just bought a medela swing pump today bc the other I had was a cheap one
