I went to do my taxes today and I won't be getting the eic because my daughter was born in Nov. Ugh I'm a little bumped...I was really hoping to pay off a few things but it doesn't look like that's going to happen until next yr.

Yeah, us either. It sucks because they took so much from our checks. And we paid so much in interest on our mortgage and didn't get a credit for that. Tax season sucks!!

I had my lo in oct and im getting it. As long as baby was in 2011 you can get it.

You qualify so long as you had your child in 2011 and they have a valid social security number.

It told me she had to be living half or more of the year to qualify she was only living 2 months.

Nope, I have friends that had babies in October and they qualified. They lied. You qualify. I would go back, too.

Yeah you put 12months no matter what age. It just means their only home that year.

Yepp figured it out. We got enough back to pay off my car and some credit cards. I'm so excited! Thanks @everyone for your help! I was freaking out a little lol I wanted that money lol

When tax rules say your child must live with you for half of the year they mean that you can't claim them if they lived elsewhere for six months or more. So even if your baby was born on December 31 you can qualify for EITC for your baby as long as you have a SSN for him/her.

The amount of the EITC varies depending on your income. The credit starts low if you barely made much money, hits a peak at a certain amount, and then gets lower as income amounts get higher. Hope that made sense!

If your in the low income tax bracket its 1000 per kid but you can only get back money for 3kids.

@Steph_Due_101611 I think what you are mentioning is the child tax credit which is different than the EITC.

It sucks that they put a maximum income limit on the EITC, we don't qualify for it neither did a lot of our friends. The maximum income limit is way too low.imo

@juliansmommy I agree.. we didn't qualify for it either. I only worked two months last year, and just that little bit put us over the limit. it sucks..

@hot2cold87 I used turbo tax instead of tax act like I usually do. Turbo tax says to put the whole year as long as your child has lived with you the whole year, so their whole life @juliansmommy. @gabbyc it was at least 3,000. I thought everyone qualified the first year you claim them? @lucyloo288

@Britt21 you thought everyone qualified for EIC the first year you claim your child or the first year you filed for it? I really don't know anything more than turbo tax and h&r block told me...

And I just wanted to suggest that everyone try both turbo tax and h&r block before you actually file.. like input your info in both systems. There was an 800$ difference in our taxes when I did them on one, then the other.

Yea that is why I switched @mimii36 I used turbo tax instead of tax act this year. Our babies were born on the same day! What time was your lo born?
