Does the kid really need a middle name?

So I understand that it's more legit to have a name, middle name and last name. With our first we never gave him a middle name just cuz my hubby thinks it's pretty much pointless. My dad told me in their country (Europe) they gave their kids middles names cuz there were a lot of people with the same last names and same names so it would help them locate who is who. But here in the US we see it's pointless...what do u think? Now with our second one on the way...we don't kno if we should think of a middle name or stick to the idea of no middle names for all our kids?? Advice please....

    I think its only fair not to again or later you will have to explain it to the oldest. I like the idea of a middle name so that I can use it when I'm really mad and they know I mean business lol

    My hubby's whole family grandparents, uncles,aunts,cousins,brothers,sisters,he has 2sis and 10bros none of them have middle names.legally u go by SS#.I say if u didn't give oldest it wouldn't b fair to give the nxt one ut still its ur choice.

    @nihilist yea when I was a kid my parents always called me by my middle name when I was in trouble so I guess that works! lol

    @KerrideeRN in my country ur middle name would b your dads name...so when people ask us what our middle names are we'd b embarrassed to say anything and would make up a name! would not want my kid going through that!

    plus if you have a girl when the get married the middle name you fought about for so long usually goes out the window....I gave mine up so my maiden name could be my middle name!

    @allie8955 & @ta2edblondie but I did like my former middle name so all my screen names and emails and what nots are vanalkr vana(first) l (former middle) k (maiden) r(last) it's so funny how people I know don't get it!

    I guess if you don't like your middle name its an easy way to get rid of it!

    I dont think its necessary but I think its safe, like in case of mistaken identities or something like that.

    My dad and my bd dont have middle names but im giving my baby one so it knows when its in trouble. Thats how I always knew.. lol

    Lol @nihilist and @ittybitty, I swear my mom gave me my name specifically because it was so perfect for yelling (my name is marianne elizabeth). I have gone by maggie my whole life because I automatically feel like I'm in trouble when I hear marianne. :) @allie8995 we gave our second son the middle name Danger because we figured middle names are pretty pointless.

    @Magcaw.. Mine is jessica hope so as soon as nebody says it I get nervous, still to this day. Lol.. My bf likes doin it jus for that reason.
