Probably a stupid ?

edited April 2012 in Pregnant
Since I still haven't passed anything and have an incomplete/missed miscarriage (cervix is closed), are there any risks of pregnancy with sex? I know this is stupid to ask, and I know sex is something I probably shouldn't be doing, but wanted to make sure there's no way to ovulate? Do I have to wait for this to be over to start my birth control again? @bahamamama4828, @rtmommy, @mom2ing, @homebirthadvocate--you ladies usually have some good advice.

  • I got pregnant exactly a month after I miscarried, so I would say yes.
  • The birth control thing though, I don't know. I would say wait until your next period??
  • Well, ugh. Who knows when that will be seeing that I am still technically pregnant until this passes or is removed...@lilsugarsmomma
  • I would wait until everything passes. Given the circumstances and using condoms. What if there's an infection and you ended up preggo again?
Hmm this is tricky, maybe check for ovulation?
  • @bexiewexie, nope. I stopped bleeding tuesday before the ultrasound that showed everything still in there.

@homebirthadvocate, I didn't think it possible to ovulate if your body is still technically pregnant? idk. :/
  • Lol wrong person. Technically no so its tricky. I would be careful because of infection.
  • I would be careful..wear protection just be certain but who knows maybe an orgasm will help things move along
  • ^^ good point. If orgasms make the uterus contract maybe they will help!
  • Lol, I have tried that. It took a lot of convincing...this whole situation has pretty much turned him off to sex, understandably . We tried it, but it was too painful @lilsugarsmomma
  • I'd just touch myself for an orgasm. No penetration.

Id ask your OB about the BC but since the baby never developed, your body may not be aware that its "pregnant", so it could still be possible to ovulate (just a guess). Id use protection just in case (condoms) and speak to a dr about the bc
  • I don't think you need to worry about pregnancy at this point. Your hcg is still high enough to be considered pregnant by your body, and last I knew, you can't just add another one when you're already pregnant. :/ The bc--I wouldn't bother with just yet. You have hormones going through you already. I'd worry that the bc would cause your body to maintain the MC even longer. When is the soonest you think you'll be able to make an appt with an OB to talk about the d&c? Hope the pain is under control for the most part.
  • Shouldn't your cervix be open to pass anything?
  • Pregnancy risk aside, I'm not sure having sex while having a miscarriage is a good idea. It could put you at risk for an infection. Even after a D&C, they don't recommend sex for the first 2-4 weeks I believe, possibily longer depending on gestation. I'm sorry you are going through this.
  • @mom2ing, it was open when they first diagnosed the incomplete miscarriage. It was closed at my ultrasound that showed everything still retained. Im just wondering if my levels can fall to 0 without it passing, then would my body think I wasn't pregnant?

@misskristin, my thoughts too, but I am not miscarrying anymore. My body started, then stopped with everything still inside. Hoping for a ad&C this week.
  • Wait wait and wait

  • I would be careful because of infection I mc at 8wks and everything was natural afyer the er thankfully didn't need a dc but you can get and infection! So no sex. You can treat this kind of like pp? Infections are dangerous!
  • Sounded like i said because of infection I mc at eight weeks but I meant to put a period after infection. Sorry
