Maddie McCann.... Derek Acorah

edited May 2012 in Current Events
On the 3rd May 2007, 3yr old Madeleine McCann was abducted from the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz. Since then, despite extensive enquiries Madeleine is still missing.

The following text was taken from a local newspaper today (Tuesday 15th May 2012)

The medium, who has allegedly “sickened” the McCann family with his predictions, said the little girl would soon be reincarnated after joining the “spirit world”.

Mr Acorah, 62, said: “I know her parents are convinced Maddie is alive and I’m really sorry – but the little one has been over in the spirit world for some time.”

In a bizarre interview, based on information Mr Acorah claimed he had received from a spirit guide, he told the Sun newspaper: “I don’t think it’ll be long before she reincarnates.

“When children pass over who haven’t had full lives I believe they choose the time to come back in the same form again – as another little girl.”

The newspaper quoted a source close to the McCann family as saying: “Kate and Gerry are sickened. This character Derek Acorah is nothing but a self-publicist.

“It’s incredibly distasteful and insensitive.”

A spokesman for the couple added: “Kate and Gerry believe their daughter is alive and the Metropolitan Police are currently pursuing an investigation to that effect.

“If anyone credible has any credible evidence that she is alive they would come forward.”

Mr Acorah, who used to host television show “Most Haunted”, added he was surprised his comments had upset Madeleine’s family.

“I would hate to offend or upset the McCanns as a parent myself,” he said.

He has claimed he received his information from a spirit messenger called Sam, shortly after Madeleine vanished from a Portugal holiday resort five years ago.

He said he had been asked to travel there to assist with the search, but had contacted Sam to seek guidance before leaving.

He said: “I sat in my meditation room and I asked the spirit world and Sam confirmed she was dead. It is horrible but he said there was no purpose for me to go there.”

Mr Acorah added he did not travel to the Praia da Luz resort to spare the McCann family any unnecessary suffering.

“I wasn’t going to bring extra misery to them,” he said. “I do know that they will find out what happened to Maddie one day.”

Mr Acorah, who made his comments to the Sun while promoting his latest tour, is proclaimed “without question, the number one television psychic in the UK” on his website.

He rose to fame on “Most Haunted”, where he would communicate with spirits, before moving on to present “Derek Acorah’s Ghost Towns”.

The McCann family, who have released a photograph showing what they believe their daughter looks like now on the fifth anniversary of her disappearance, hope a new police investigation will allow them to finally discovery what happened.

What sort of person would say that!! I mean how publicity hungry must he be!
Whats everyones views on this? This is huge over in the UK.

  • The fact that he is about to go on tour says a lot about why he decides to talk to the papers now!! I have seen him live and he seems very good but stuff like this just makes me think he is fame hungry and doesn't care who he upsets!
  • Well, what if he's right though? I can't really say its bad, but definitely should not have been so big in the media. Maybe a private session with her parents, but nothing further.
  • I think he may be right. Agree with fate though, he would have better served by a private discussion.
  • @littlenat86 we seen him live a few years ago an yeah he was good but he's been really disrespectful in doing what he's done and the way he's done it.

@fate and @captivated maybe he is right... i hope for her families sake he's not but h as you both said he could of done it different! If he is genuine in what he's saying by doing it the way he has just makes him look like a publicity vulture
  • I agree. I pray he's not right.

If he wasn't doing it for the fame and/or money, he would have kept it private. He's an opportunity seeker and if I was her parent I'd be outraged.
  • The programme Most Haunted finished because he admitted that he pretended to get 'taken over' by spirits. He said the producers asked him to do it more and more but the presenter was so disgusted he was lying she said she would no longer work with him. That is why its hard to believe anything he does.
I just wonder what has been happening to that poor, beautiful girl in 5 years and wonder if it is a good thing if she is still is alive? Hopefully she is safe and looked after
  • This will probbably not be a popular comment but, let's not over look the fact that the parents left this child with two younger children alone to go eat with friend. Yes they were not that far away but obviously far enough away for something horrible to happen. I hope they do one day find out what happen and who was involved but I can't help but think if they had just ordered room service this wouldn't have happened.
  • I completely agree @Eeyore they now live with that guilt every single day. There are also some who say that they had something to do with it
  • @starrxoxo9 He's certainly made himself look that way :-\

@littlenat86 we loved most haunted but he was OTT with his 'possessions' he's a very strange man i liked him because he's a fellow scouser but that's about the only reason.

@eeyore absolutely agree they made a terrible decision that as @littlenat86 said they have to live with everyday. I pray they can one day find some peace
  • @eeyore very true, I agree with you
  • I agree with @fate Maybe he's right. I understand why it would hurt them but he may be right. If the little girl is dead they can't get upset with him for telling them so. He should have kept it out of the media tho.
