Checking your cervix? WTF?

OK, I personally have never heard of checking your own cervix. To me it sounds gross, but I just read all sorts of stuff on it online and thought, "wow, this is a normal thing for ppl." Just thought I would throw this out there and see what ppl have heard/think about it.

    Yah...I've never stuck my finger up there to check anything. There are other ways...I suggest you go those routes instead. Yuck!

    I used to work in the OB department and we had some "frequent flyers" that just didn't know if they were in labor or not and came in most, if not, everyday. I remember one of the nurses explaining to someone how to check herself, even sent some sterile gloves home with her so she wouldn't cause an infection. I agree that it is a little weird, and a cervix is not always an easy thing to find in my experience. And knowing what to "look" for is a completely different thing. lol

    Someone commented on a post on yahoo and said she was going to "train her husband to do this".... Uhm no thanks. I pay my OBGYN for a reason. Besides, couldnt "stimulating" your cervix cause problems? And WTH would anyone need to do this anyways?

    @Kcantu2 I only allow my doctors to stick their fingers in there! The LAST person I want goofing around in there messing stuff up is my husband! lol

    @PebblesMommy haha, I just feel it is a little too sensitive and personal... I just can't imagine doing that haha.

    Ppl on these pages seemed openly happy about doing it! It felt kind of taboo and dirty if you ask me.

    i wont let my fiance stick his fingers up there. not now for foreplay and certainly not when im pregnant! just the thought of fingers up there grosses me out.. i know its natural and turns girls on but i cant wrap my head around the dirt he COULD get under his nails.. or the germs on the railing i know he held onto to get upstairs.. the whole thing freaks me out.

    I could personally neverrr see myself doing it but I've read that some people ttc do it to tell when there ovulating as the wall/lining is diff or something xx

    @kcantu2 Yes really! The girl was almost due, and I think the nurse figured she wasn't going to find her cervx anyways, and if she did she wouldn't have probably known what it was lol. We have, many times, sent the amnio swabs home with people who think their water breaks 20 times a day. That's easy to do and easy to read, plus it saves the mom to be lots of time and money.

    See I would be afraid of infection as well @trying4first.

    @Maranda3 I would have tojust annoy everyone, the thought scares me haha. Im a scaredy cat though I guess.

    I check my cervix often. But I has a scare so I check to make sure everything feels right.

    but its the dirt! lol.. when i was younger before i had lost my V-card that it was like a big thing to let guys finger you.. so i did but i didnt get grossed out or anything but something changed between college and nursing school and the concept of dirt transferring and causing infection.. i cant...

    @praying4our3rd congrats on your pregnancy! im just starting to ttc.. was it hard to concieve using this method? im curious now.. where did you go to learn how to do this? did you have to track it for a few months before you figured things out?

    My cervix never changed the way they say it should. Maybe I just have a weird vagina...
