I live I a small town in Texas between Houston and College Station and have been here my whole life we don't really wanna live here perminitly but we'll see how it plays out
I think that staying in one place is good, but there are times you as a kid just need a fresh start. I was lucky, after junior high, most kids from my school went to one of two high schools that were in the district, but I had my uncle as a principal in a third high school, and got to go there. I loved that opportunity to start again. There were a few kids i knew, but for the most part, people were new and I needed that. After 9 grades of the same people..it was nice to get away..
Yes I agree with staying in one place. Esp after they start school. Growing up I had kids in my class that changed schools every year. I wouldn't want to do that to my kid, having to make new friends or pulling them away from a place they have called home for so long. I would love to move away, but its not happening any time soon, and like I said before, I couldn't do it to her after she started school, so I guess we will be staying put for a long while.
We liked Rochester for the mostpart. It's very expensive tho. We are happy to be back in the Midwest. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is cheaper here. Education is MUCH better here as well. Education for the most part is better in the Midwest. It's important for us to have our kids grow up in one area... and that's why we moved closer to our families. It's very hard to live away from family when u have small children. This will be where we call home. Also I'm not gonna lie.. People in the Midwest and south are a lot more friendly than other places we've experienced. Just my opinion tho and I know everyone has their own.
@erickak22 Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Florida; everything there bites or stings! I lived in central PA for a year in a small town. It is sooo pretty! II love all the hills, trees, covered bridges and wildlife (especially all the salamanders!) had a great circle of friends there. But, the state in general is too republican for me!!!
@1stwoodsbaby Nashville is a cool city; it's got a great music scene...and I don';t even like country music!!!
@natashalynn i agree with you 100% I changed high schools after my freshman year. T this day, I am glad I did. However, I was running away from some problems and I would've learned valuable conflict-resolution if I would have been forced to stay and deal with my problems.
@trixiesmom8 I feel the same. My oldest is in preschool. So, I'm feeling the pressure to make a decision in the next year or two...
@mommyof3girls (lucky you, btw, girls are sooo much fun!) the cost of living here is about the same as Rochester...which is crazy because were only a few miles (yet another world away) from Detroit! We do have amazing schools here...our teachers are among the highest-paid in the nation, so we get great teachers.
I totally agree with you in regard to the importance of family in deciding where to live. I'm so jealous of people who have family who help with their kids! Pretty much all of my mommy-friends' kids have grandparents and aunts/uncles who not only help, but actually complain if they don't get to take care of the kids enough!!! Bf/bd and I have NOBODY (all of his immediate family has passed away in recent years. I'm an only child of a single mom (who loves my kids...she just doesn't want to take care of them, ever). All of our extended family have their own kids/grand-kids. So, it's just Bf and I. Which is fine...I mean, I love taking care of my children (they are really awesome kids!) It just makes me sad for them that they don't have aunts, uncles or GPs who are begging to take care of them. Actually the only person who would love the opportunity to take care of them is my 1st-cousin (who is like my sister...the kids call her "Aunt M"). But she moved to Phoenix 6 years before my first was born. I would consider moving there JUST to be close to her because she loves them so much. However, she has bipolar disorder (she is being treated) and I would have to see her for more than a few days at a time before we moved to Phoenix!
Yea..my lo turns one in November so we have 4 yrs to find a good place, but it won't be out of state. Hubby's mom relies on us a lot, because she can't drive and stuff, plus hubby is a momma's boy so it would be like pulling teeth to get him on board with moving away from her. And I can see it now mentioning it to him and he mention her having to come too. Umm..I love my mil but not enough to live her again esp now that we have a kid. I mean I know it would in our house instead of her's but still, no thank you!!
I was born in Toledo Ohio...lived there til I was 12. Then moved to camarillio, California then to murrieta,ca. Then when I was 18 I moved to Delaware for 1 1/2 years and lived in pa some of that time too. Then I came back to cali.
@2ndtimearound that's great! I don't know what kind u do but my good friends wants to do that kinda stuff we were both adopted and I still help out here and there but nothing serious so he wants to help and work with kids.
@jules I work for Children & Family Services. I am the ongoing worker...meaning I work on trying to get the kids back home to their parents. If that isn't possible I work on finding permanent homes for the kids. There's so many ways to help out with the kids. Big Brother/Big Sister, CASA, mentoring, etc.
I'm in a sunburn of Detroit too!! I'm an east sider. I grew up about 45 minutes from where I live now but we are raising our kids in the city my husband grew up in. I like it here. We eventually want to sell our house and move north in a few years.
@Mrsstanley_x2 that couldn't be more perfect sorry it is taken so long for me to write back havn't been on xavier has a bug and has give it to me if you don't see me on here yoy can always e-mail that goes right to my phone stella098@ymail.com. i can't wait i really don't hace anyone with kids Xavier age he goes to a in home daycare but most of the kids are older so it will be cool if we could get together.
