ok to take ibuprofen while prego?

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
I have lower back problems, and get leg cramps from time to time. Am I able to take ibuprofen?

  • Acetaminophen, no ibuprofen.
  • My doctor said just tylenol nothing else
  • Tylenol regular strength only!!!!!
  • You can take paracetamol thats ok. But ibuprofen might cause problems while birth.Dont take ibu after week 28 please!
  • Tylenol & Acetaminophen are the same thing. Acetaminophen is the main ingredient in Tylenol & its perfectly fine to take. No ibuprofen though.

  • Along with the Tylenol points (and I would definitely check out @mama_kat's suggestion to request Tylenol 3 if it is chronic), I would try an epsom salt bath. It helps to reduce swelling and ease tension in tight muscles. It works wonders for me when my neck and shoulder start tensing up!
  • Extra strength tylenol only, you need anything stronger you definately have to talk to your doctor.
  • Speak to your doctor I was told ibuprofen was fine in second trimester but definitely NOT in 3rd. My doc told me it could cause premature labour if taken in 3rd trimester
  • ibuprofen says on the box no in any trimester
  • Medical doctors have told me its okay in 3rd trimester.
  • I've always been told just acetaminophen only, but I have to take a baby aspirin every day because I have a high risk pregnancy where my placenta swells so bad that all blood flow stops, thats how I almost lost my daughter, my specialist put me on it, I would defiantly ask your Dr before taking anything but tylenol, what @mama_kat said sounds like a great idea. Good luck sweetie.
