anyone have a vbac (vaginal birth after c section)?

edited April 2011 in Pregnant
Has anyone ever had a vbac? I'm concerned. They plan to have the birth be at a bigger hosptial in case anything happens. Are there questions that I should ask the doctor that will be at the birth? Please help me on tthis one!

  • Good luck @lilbabythree! I chose to schedule a c-section after my first--I was afraid to do something unfamiliar because my first pregnancy and delivery had been so rough. I didn't enjoy the scheduled experience (though I had no complications and my recovery was great), and now my doctor won't risk me trying VBAC because I've already two surgeries. I say go for it and don't be worried, even if there is a complication you will be in good hands.
  • @HomeBirthAdvocate Thank u for the support. My first birth was amazing and went very smoothly. It was a vaginal birth. My second was a c section and was miserable. I was allergic to the narcotic in the epidural. I have a conference with my dr and the on call dr and some nurses that know about high risk births so that I can ask my questions. Unfortunely, BD is not around and questions my decision to have vbac.
  • @magcaw....I was over due with my second and that is why I had the c section. I'm nervous because it was only 2 years ago I hope the scar is healed enough.
  • I'm hoping for a vbac but my doc says only if my pregnancy is perfectly flawless which most likely wont happen...
  • @lilbabythree My first and second were 27 months apart, and though I didn't have a VBAC I didn't feel as though I would have had any issues from my scar. I had my first because my labor stalled, most likely a result of the combination of my induction and my nearly 11lb son. If your doctor was concerned about how you've healed they wouldn't be supportive of you making the attempt. Honestly, I think people make the risks sound much worse than they actually are.
  • I'm a vbac. Best thing that happened to me. Things to consider is your prior c section and the scaring that you have. Your doctor will new able to determine if you are a good candidate. Which it seems like you may be since they are talking about with you. My experience was great I got alot if support from everyone at the hospital. And I felt such a bond with my daughter after and was able to recover and really care for my baby the way I wanted to. The csection was more difficult over all. Hoping for another vbac. Good luck.
  • I was also high risk GD and gave birth to a 9 lb baby. Total health.

  • I tried vbac with my second but ended in another emergency c section for same reasons as the first. Going straight for planned c section this time. :)
  • Thanks for the support. Although I'm still nervous! I have a meeting on Monday and I hoping to hear things that will calm the nerves. I will let u know how it goes. I'm doing research on it to so I can be prepared. :)
