Sounds like it's just dry. I know you don't need it anytime soon, but I hear that using the breast feeding cream on there helps. You know, the cream you put on while you are lactating because the baby's saliva dries it up. Go ahead and grab a tube. Also, be careful washing your nipples with soap cause that will dry them out too.
Mine is peeling bad, too!! Using lanolin helps some, but doesn't take the itch away. Just don't mess with it til the layers are loose and ready to come off easy. Peeling them off before they're ready will lead to bleeding. I learned that the hard way.
