edited April 2011 in Pregnant
i currently have a white crib and change table that i want to paint like a dark brown to black. have no idea where to start ? need to know about sanding it back or whether to strip the paint to original stain? and whether to paint or stain the wood and the best technique ie paint brush spray or roller. and do i have to use a under coat

  • Strip it then sand a nit and strip again until no more white should have a wood finish that u will love if u don't want that much work to be involved just sand the best you can and spraypaint it.. probly take 2 or three coats to be perfect but two would please most..
  • Hmm ive done a few wooden chairs beffore, I just sanded it all off, extremely tiring! Then just got stain and a small sponge like thing with handle like a paintbrush it was in same area as the stain at the store. Then just paint it on let it dry and may need to do another coat or 2. ask a person at the hardware store theyre usually very helpful! Goodluck!
  • I used to work at home depot and I grew up very handy thanks to my dad.I would use a no odor stripper.they sell one at home depot its orange.bigger bottle for both pieces would b about $20.then u need a flat stripping tool$1.you need stripping gloves I believe there $2-$3.a mask is a must bc your pregnant.I would also do it outside.then id say sand it to get the rest of what's left of the paint off.if you spray paint be careful of drips.if you use a brush you can leave behind brush stroke marks and a roller could be good for most of it depending on the style.(sry that doesn't really help you)then you have to use a sealer bc the baby might start teething and biting crib and you want to be able to wash it down when need be like if baby gets sick of fun things like my kids used to do take there poop diapers off and cover crib in poop.stain can come out with a nicer finish but it could take longer.

  • wow thanks everyone thats so helpful!! :D i've decided to strip it then stain it. so gonna go to a hardware store today and get supplies. i'm 20weeks so got a bit of time to do it. so looking forward to this mini project! @lucky7 and the pooey diapers hehe kids huh. thanks so much for the info
