I breast fed with my first then she weened herself at almost three mos. I'm thinking of pumping cause my bf/bd wants to be able to take her for feedings in the morning due to I'm a night owl and he's an early bird.

I'm just wondering what everyone else is planning

  • Formula
  • @mystic what brand? I used infamil with my first but that was 11 years ago lol.
  • I'm planning on breast feeding and some pumping so daddy can fed her.
  • I'm going if I can breastfeed and pump so daddy can have his turn feeding her but we'll see what happens hopefully it goes good
  • I was tramatised by my first lol. I hate breast feeding but I wont take away the benefits of my milk of course lol.
  • I breastfeed my first for 10 months til teeth and my job. This time I plan to bf again but I will be at work much sooner so hopefully I can pump. With any luck I can get a nice freezer stash going so I won't have to buy any formula.
  • Formula. I pumped for like the first two weeks with my daughter cuz she would not latch on. I couldn't stick with the schedule to feed solely that way though. I imagine I'll go the same route again.
  • I'm going to go with breastfeeding and maybe a little pumping. Saves some money and is supposed to have great benefits.
  • @megrod88 so strictly formula worked well? What brand do you think is best? My daughters half sister was a formula baby and she was super skinny so it sorta scares me but I think it was her brain dead mom who was not feeding her enough
  • See my first weened herself by licking me instead of eating. I could not handle it lol. I was 16 so it disturbed me. She gained so much weight from my milk so I didn't feel bad by stopping.
  • I'm planning on breast feeding and pumping so hubs can feed her too.
  • @proudmomma I was 16 with my daughter also and she had latching problems from the start. Being the age I was it totally threw me off and made me feel really unconfident like I was going to starve her(which obviously wouldn't have happened). I fed her Enfamil with Lipil. She turned out fine, better than fine actually. She's always been a perfect weight at doc visits and she's actually a reading level above her class which is getting her into advanced classes after summer. I'm not saying formula is the cause by any means but I'm confident she's not lacking because of it.
  • With my son I used emofmeal (sp) that was 9yrs ago
  • @megrod88 I used the same formula. I think formula has come a long way since which is reassuring to those who formula feed :)

Did you feel a bond still though?
  • II love enfimil but I think Wic covers only similac now :(
  • I'm going for breast feeding and pumping!!
  • Oh definitely. I still held her tight in my arms on the Boppy pillow and just stared at her in awe. Lol she never even used her crib cuz I wanted her closer to me. I feel like I grew up with my daughter and that she made me who I am. I'm sure you can relate to what I mean.
  • @megrod88 oh yes I totally relate. The bond with my first is amazing. Yes I wish I could go back and have been there more but I was a kid with a very supportive mom so I still had my growing up experiences. Gosh I love that kid. I check on her all the time when she is asleep. My bf thinks I'm odd cause she is 11 lol.
  • I do believe breast milk is ideal but if it's not the route taken children can still thrive and be healthy and happy formula fed.
  • Breast feeding and pumping ...
  • Yup. First couple of weeks are the most crucial though. I think I will pump and formula
  • With my first, I breastfed him for the first month, expressed a little then went onto formula. I would have liked to have breastfed for longer but it really wasn't practical since I returned to school 3 months after his birth. With my second, who I had 11 days a go, I was determined to breastfeed for 3 months, expressing after the first month also so my partner could be involved with the feeding. I breastfed for the first two days but it was really painful so I switched to expressing, but I could barely pump any so I put her onto formula, and it was reassuring since I could tell how much she was getting each time. I kept pumping so that my milk would stay and I've been trying her again on the breast and she latches on really well, so she's breastfed at night and a few times during the day and has some formula too. It's worked really well for me, and I'm surprised that she is still taking the breast without too much hassle. Sorry it's so long! I just wanted to explain that you can always try going back to things if they don't work at first! :-) Good luck with whichever feeding option you go with.
  • @sheridanlm1991 that was very helpful and probably gave a lot of hope to ones that want to go back :) I will probably try bf in the hospital then decide after
  • I'm going to breastfeed and pump
  • Breastfeeding only........ this will be my third go around never used formula never will

I breastfed exclusively for 4-6 months when we introduced maybe 4 bottles of formula a week. The formula started to make my daughter vomit (and so did pears) around 8 months. So i went back to breastfeeding exclusively until she started to like food more. When she woulgrab for our food I would let her eat it but kept breastfeeding until she was 14 months and I got preggers with my baby boy ;)

We found that Nestles good start was easiest on her tummy.
  • I tried to breastfeed with my second son (I had no desire to even try with my first). He wouldn't latch properly (he kept closing his mouth too soon), lost a pound in a week, and we spent every feeding with both of us hysterical. I finally gave in and gave him a bottle at one 4:00am feeding and he flat out refused the breast after that. After 3 days I decided to try pumping, but my milk never came in right so I just gave up. It was completely devastating, I felt so broken and I cried for hours at a time...but after about two days that feeling just turned off, like someone flipped a switch. It was so weird. I'm not sure if I want to go through that again. On a side note, my son STILL shuts his mouth the second food gets near it-the same issue we had with breast feeding-and he's 2 1/2. Pain in my butt. :)
  • I will be breastfeeding this one as I did with the first two for at least 6 months.
  • I will b bf until it hurts too bad and pump if I have to switch I will use similac
  • I'm going with breast feeding. But since switching to pumping didn't work well with me when I wanted to go back to work, I'm going to nurse and pump at the same time this time. I'm going to need to if I don't want Ollie on formula and he's going to get a chance to see his daddy while we're apart...
