we got my daughter one just this school year ,shes 11, only because she walks to and from school. Theres a long list of rules that we have for her as well. we recently had some issues where her best friend got mad at her and gave her # out to a bunch of boys!
Depends on the situation. In the town I used to live in I considered gettin my 8 y/o a phone. He would go play with his friends and lose track of time, and occasionally I wouldn't know which friends house he ended up at. Calling or txtn him would have been a lot easier than hunting him down. It's pretty common for life to get phones. I sell them at my job and its not unusual to c
@amyduh...he is very involved in baseball and we are always out at some game and when he'd run to the concession stand id have no way to contact him...well now I do and its a life saver...his phone is profaned only to allow calls in his phonebook...and it works great for punishment to take his phone best thing ever lo
@abby5 our oldest has had a phone since she was six. She goes with her dad on the weekends and I want to always be able to get ahold of her. This was an issue before she got a phone. Her phone also has gps tracking and parental controls. She can only call or be called by whom I've approved. It has also come in handy when the bus garage "lost" my daughter. She had a basic phone with no internet. She is 8 now. I'm glad we got her a phone and I don't consider her to young. Anytime my child is away from me I worry and this way I can call her anytime.
@jessica28...my sons phone is the same way and when his with his dad he can call or txt me whenecer he likes...makes his dad mad but I pay the bill lol
My son is 8 years old and he's had a cell phone (palm pre) since he was 7. He's never lost it, has never put extra charges so we let him keep it. I was worried at first since he loses everything, except for the phone (amazingly). He takes the bus, and he knows he's only allowed to use it for emergencies (like when the bus breaks down and he'll be home late) or after school to ask if he can go to a friends house.
We also gave my daughter a cell phone for her 6th birthday, and she knows the rules as well. She just uses it for listening to music and calling us or her grandparents.
@abby5 that's my mind set also. I think its one of the best choices we've made. I wouldn't change my mind for anything. Besides in this day and age, ANYTHING can happen.
I didn't get one till I was 11and it was a pre paid virgin moblie one with the game snake on it.lol its funny cause when I would go to school kids with much better phones would beg me to let them play the snake game. I had that phone for 3yrs.
My son is 7 hes had his phone for 2 years I keep track of all calls n yes txts. He has called me a couple of times for emergancies once he had a nose bleed at school and was stuck in the bathroom and another time at his dads house when his dad fainted from chemo had been super sick and my lil guy saved his daddys life so I support a phone as long as the kiddo knows the rules and follows them
