Nope. Soon as I found out I was preggo threw away the rest of the pack and never looked back. Do it cold turkey, its the health of your child your jepordizing
I cut back little by little. It was a lot easier & didn't send my body into shock making me more sick then I already was, became really easy when I got nauseous every time I had a cig! G'luck hun!
I smoked b4 i ever had my first. I stopped as soon as i got the positve hpt. It made me sick to my stomach to know i had been smoking while pregnant. Please stop for ur babys sake.
quitting cold turkey can put your body into shock and cause you to lose the pregnancy, its rare but it does happen. Its better to cut back slowly. Buy your last pack, ration it out, and refuse to buy the next pack. Thats what worked for me. Also find something to do to pass by the cravings. Its hard but you can do it. Good luck:)
My dr. said cold turkey not only causes withdrawal in me but also my baby so to cut back until after the first trimester then quit all together just repeating what my dr. said
I tried quitting cold turkey before, my blood pressure dropped & I had to be admitted into the hospital. Almost lost me & the baby. Find what works for you & work it, everyone is different.
I quit immediately when I even thought I was preg....a week before my positive test came.. before anybody knew they tried to offer me pot but I got nauseous even thinking about smoking with my baby..stopping for 9 months out of my ENTIRE life is nothing compared to the health of my child..I'm only 19 but I feel more mature than many mothers out there...I seen a very large pregnant woman smoking a cigg outside of my job the other day and was disgusted.
I am still trying to quit. I live with 5 other smokers which doesn't make things any easier. I have cut back substantially but haven't quite gotten there yet. I am staying at my friends house for a weekend to quit all the way. She doesn't smoke so that helps. Everyone is different. Good luck. BTW my doc also said cold turkey has been shown to cause issues like mc because of the withdrawl. No judgements please.
It was hard for 3 hrs then I looked up pics of newborns that mothers smoked, and after that I threw away the pack and haven't looked back...yes I crave but I remember why I did it and I push pass.
Thanks ladies! I found out 2days ago so im cutting down, if i find it too hard, i may just get the fake ciggi from the chemist, all the bad stuff gone so no harm to my baba!
Lol I think as long as you have made a choice to give up and your not ignorant about it, which you obviously are not!! Then your doing great no point putting your body into shock. Oh and those nicotine ciggie things put nicotine into your body lol. I don't think that helps. But good on you for deciding to quit I got bad morning sickness and couldn't even stand the smell after being a pack a day so I was lucky lol
Nicotine is the addictive part, but also causes no harm to you or baby . Its the carbon monoxide & tar that does all the harm. But going to try my very hardest! Hopefully i get sick off the smell also! Thanks for the support ladies
I smoked with both my first two pregnancies and had completely healthy babies the first was 8 lbs 2 oz and the second was 8 lbs 10oz and I am smoking with this preg to and baby is perfectly healthy doc is even talking bout inducing me in 5 weeks at 38 weeks because he is so big.
i'm also finding it really difficult & have lost count how many times ive given up since found out i was pregnant, i just keep trying & am on day 1 again.
to those who make comments such as to do it for our babies, whilst i completely understand where you are coming from & i do know the harmful effects of smoking ( & i too always swore if i ever became pregnant that would be it i would quit immediately so could well have been guilty of making similar comments ) can i say, we already feel guilty of what we are doing to ourselves & babies & that guilt usually makes us want to go & smoke rather than stop.
i have found it has helped me to read the allen carr book easyway to stop smoking & cant recommend it highly enough. Like i said i'm only on day 1 of stopping but hopefully thats it for me & i wish anyone wanting to stop the best of luck xx
@loubylou I am having a hard time also, I've cut back but idk about quitting cold turkey. I know its harmful to the baby but Im scared of putting my body in shock, especially since I've mc'ed before..im definitely going to talk to my dr. first though..does anyone know could it maybe be worse on ur body when quitting depending how strong of cigarette you smoke?
@mommy2b123 its so hard isnt it, ive told my local shop not to serve me for them, meaning i will have to get on the bus to go get some! Well even the menthol and light ciggys COULD harm the baby but i too have heard quitting all together can make things a whole lot worse confused!
@loubylou extremely. Im soo confused on what to do...I haven't been smoking as much lately but I have my first appointment on the 24th so I will for sure ask about it. How far along are you?
First of all great topic. Second to those gals on here this forum is for support not to condem others. Great to here the good advice and supportf for the ladies that need it. Im preggas with my 3rd my 1st i quit @ about 5 months she came out @ 7-14 2nd bub i cut down but smoked the whole way she came out @ 8-10. This one ive been a smoker for much longer and im finding so much harder. You need to be absolutely ready to put that last cig out and not go back. So dont stress youself pace yourself and it will happen. And to the comment b4 about alen carr, couldnt agree more but you still need to be ready when you start reading. Good luck ladies, remember cigs are harmful but in our condition stress can be worse!
I wasn't pregnant when I quit, so I'm so proud of you guys for doing it while pregnant! But here's my advice.
I found procrastination was more effective than just saying no. I dropped to one a day, and only after 10:30 PM. When I wanted one, I told myself I could have one later. It wasn't as tortuous as all out denial.
For one month I did this. For the first week I could have 2 if I wanted. And I kept the same pack so it got really stale. I think the added grossness of stale cigs helped.
It's not easy. I fell of the wagon a few times the first year. But after about 3 years the cravings and desires are totally gone. I actually tried one after 3 years and it was SO gross. Definitely done with that addiction.
I suggest just dropping it for good if you succeed while pregnant. It's a waste of money! And you'll just go through it again if you get pregnant again.

Take each day one at a time. Keep positive! Follow your doctor's advice. You can beat that ugly brown plant!
And props for quitting while being hormonal!
