13.5 weeks and high risk

New to this :) hello all. I am 23 yrs old o have a almost 6 year old son and two angels in heaven on that. Left at 11 weeks in pregnancy (2nd pregnancy) and my Nathaniel who was born w a congenital heart defect he only lived 6 days on this earth. The most pain full thing of my life was to bury the son we had long wanted and hoped n wish for his survival. He was my 3rd pregnancy. And now almost 2 and a half years later we are expecting once again. Even though I'm terrified of something going wrong again I have a lot of faith. We r due nov 7th and I'm high risk bcus of my past 1st pregnancy I got a cervival cerclage put in at 24 weeks and again w my 3rd pregnancy. I am now consulting w a specialist who is not so sure if he wants me to get the cerclage put in. I'm almost 14 weeks and its time for it to go in but he wants to wait n see me in 3 weeks. Ill be 16 weeks than. He also did a 2d ultrasound and this baby looks perfect but as a mommy of course I worry. Any words of advice?

  • Good luck to u & sticky baby dust ur way
  • Thank u so much
  • Aww sorry I donot have any advice expept keep holding on to your faith stay positive like you are and try not to worry. Even though it hard. We have the exact same due date and Im also consider high risk. Good luck with yours as Iam also praying for mine
  • Thanks so far that is all I have is faith and prayers. It has been a rocky road for a while and maybe now my heart will feel a bit better since we had been Trying for a healthy pregnancy since 2007. So good luck to u too lets see who pops first lol
  • My oldest has a CHD. We found out at about 26 weeks through a fetal echocardiogram. He has AV Canal (atrioventricular septal defect). He was born at 35 weeks and weighed 5 lbs 8 oz. He had a very traumatic birth and ended up in the nicu for 18 days. We then learned of his many other birth defects but he came home with us and did well. He had open heart surgery when he was 8 months old and he has done really well (heart wise) since then. He is the happiest, sweetest, funniest 6 1/2 year old. When I got pregnant with my second, we were worried out of our minds for a while that we would have a baby with more birth defects. We relaxed more realizing that we could handle anything after everything we went through with out son. Our daughter was also born at 35 weeks but totally healthy. She is my almost 5 year old drama queen. I have since had an early miscarriage and now I am 16 weeks pregnant with our final baby, another boy. We have definitely relaxed more with this one. I know how hard it is to go through the pain and heartache of having a child with birth defects and losing a pregnancy but not losing a child. My heart hurts so much for all the little heart angels out there.

Are you having a fetal echo with this pregnancy to look for heart defects since you have a history? Just try to relax as much as possible until then and hoepfully you will get good news and put your mind at ease. I know that is much easier said than done. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk. Good luck!

@juliek77 I am so happy ur son survived ... I'm sure the beggining was very stressful. As for my son Nathan he suffered of a lot of heart defects I don't even know where to begin. by the 3rd month of pregnancy went to my reg dr appointment when she went to look for the heart beat it was really slow and off beat she right away sent me to a specialist to only confirm his heart defect. We did a bunch of echos ultrasound and I even did the amniocentisis since they thought there mayb more to his defct it turned out to be he was healthy except for his heart. I went up to 3 times a week to get ultrasounds n echos and to see a pediatric cardialogist. He than told us that if he made it to birth it would be a miracle. He did. The closer we got to my due date I had a entire team ready for his arrival w a plan. It was truly in gods hands =) when he arrived he was seen by the best dr in the area. Dr Ilbawi Nathan had many defects. He had what the dr diagnosed as left atrial isomerism w congenital heart block. = which wen he was born they were able to see exactly what he had. = aortic stenosis, (narrowing of the aorta) atrioventricular septal defect (hole between both lower n upper chanbers) with all of that he had an arithmia also. He went in for surgery at 3 days old where he got a temporary pace makers and they put a stent in to his aorta to allow blood to go thru. He did great for 3 days( he wasn't expected to make it thru surgery n he did =) he stayed w me for a total of 6 days his heart couldn't take it. The right ride was just to weak it gave out. I remeber those hours ...he left 2 times but they brought him bak to us. But eventually the only thing keepin him was his breathing tube n temp heart pacer. We had to go home empty handed only to have to bury our son. It was the hardest thing ever. but I've had a great support system n we been able to survive his death. I miss him dearly n not a day goes by I don't think about him.
My oldest is now so excited for a new sibling. I can't wait to see them both together. Thanksfor sharing ur story ur one of the lucky ones =)

@millicent good luck to u ....this is my 4th pregnancy I hope we both get to hold our kiddos in our arms =) can't wait.

@HomeBirthAdvocate this would be my 3rd cerclage if I get it. My 1st one was put in at 24 weeks I had started dialating. W my next cerclage my new dr didn't wanna take any risk so got it put in at about 12-13 weeks. Now w this one my dr sent me to a specialist who thinks if its not nessacery why put it in. I only worry bcus what if it is nessacery n he doesn't. Wanna put it in but....I guess doc know best.

I was born with a heart defect and wasn't suppose to live either they didn't even know anything was wrong till I was born.. I didn't have a Pulmonary valve and my Trycuspis valve leaks I had open heart surgery at 4 days old where they opened a hole where my pulmonary valve should of been (it was completely closed) and then when I was 17 they put in an artificial valve but my trycuspis valve still leaks and my heart is a bit enlarged from working extra hard for 17 years but I am for the most part healthy now and expecting my first child a little girl and so far it looks like she has no heart problem thank god!
  • Hope all goes well with you and the pregnancy!
  • I am so sorry that you have had to go through so much. Our sons had the same defect but it sounds like you was more complicated. I remember first seeing our sons heart on the echo and thinking how sad it looked with all the chambers open to each other. When we saw his heart on the echo after surgery it was like night and day. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful and you can carry to term and have a healthy baby!
  • @chelcie89 its so great to see how many ppl do survive such defect good luck to u and I'm glad ur baby girl is healthy :)

@juliek77 it's amazing the technology now adays I was an expert at my sons heart by the end of this all lol seeing it thru ultrasound 3xs a week and all. My son also had 2 artery umbilical cord and also his stomach was on the opposite side ( many ppl have this but never know it and live just fine) I know if he would have survived my boy would have had many struggles. Thank u very much for your support :)
@Oregonmama us your Dr not putting a cerclage in. Ill get one if my cervix shows any change. But I've already had 2. Good luck to u :) oh and I am 14 weeks 2 days today lol I posted this last week.
