would you terminate if...

Your genetic screening was positive? I'm hoping not to start drama, but I am truly curious how many parents actually terminate their pregnancies if they discover the baby has Down Syndrome or another genetic anomaly. We opted out of genetic testing because it doesn't matter what the results are, we still want our baby. But how does everyone else feel?

  • I Would keep my baby no matter wat
  • I wouldn't unless there was a chance that the baby would be in worse conditions if they were born. Like if they were going to.be in a infant like state or be in constant pain
  • I feel the same I opted out as well if ur not going to use the info don't take the test
  • i have no idea. im getting my genetic screening but i think by the time im done with all that its going to be like the size of a small pumpkin lol so terminating would be kinda.... more wrong (imo) than if i was only like a month or two along
  • I opted out as well... doesn't matter to me ill still love him

  • I skipped screening and went straight to amnio because I wanted know for sure if my baby had any abnormalities that could be detected. I would have terminated if there were any problems.

  • No my sisters was positive n my nephew is fine he has alpha 1 but not Downs or anything like they thought.
  • I dont want judged.. but I think I would the chances are verrrrry slim someone will adopt a baby with down syndrome and being only 17 I'm not at a point in my life where I'm ready to take care of a bb suffering from down syndrome.
  • I have a nephew that has downs and another with cerebal palsey (sp?) And BOTH of them are a challenge, but the BRIGHTEST and most loveable little (well one is 19 with the mindset of a 12yr old) boys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. God has a plan for ALL of us!
  • I would want to know just wouldn't terminate. That way I could prepare for it

  • Down syndrome children are actually wanted by ALOT of homes interestingly enough.. and my sil was told her baby was downs and she was born perfectly healthy/normal..so no way you never know..
  • That was something my husband and I discussed and we decided that yes we would. We felt it would be to difficult for our entire family since every one relies on us so much and things can be difficult enough. But we don't know what's in our future we may have a child with autism or some other disability. And we will be there for our little one and help her in every way possible.

  • Sooo... babies ARE disposable.. who knew?
  • @babygeesmama2b You can find out if your baby has downs with more than 99% accuracy by doing an amnio. Your SIL probably just did a screening test which only tells you the probability.
  • Im gonna go ahead and exit stage left on this one. You ladies have a fabulous day!
  • I chose to take the test..but not because I would terminate if there was a problem. But because it would help me to be proactive about my babys health. I would be able to spend the 9 months researching about his condition so I could be completely prepared when he was born.
  • Sorry @praying4our3rd, that's why im bailing... forgiveness?
  • @babynumbersix lol I really did just laugh :) duh of course..
@cdswim she probably did. The chances of losing the baby are decently high when you get amnio so that would make sense:)
I just have a hard time when women want a baby so badly and can turn around and delete everything because it doesnt work out like they had hoped..
  • @praying4our3rd.. ty love... Ill catch you on the next topic.. lol

@babygeesmama2b I understand her choice but, to clarify so that there is no misinformation, the chances of having a miscarriage from amnio is less than 1%
  • I opted out on taking the test as well. Told my ob it doesn't matter. And I don't need to take the test to stress bout nothing. He agreed and said his pregnant wife isn't doing it either. He thought it was pointless and I agree.
  • also neither sides of our family have had any genetic disorders that made us think we needed to do it...
  • I wouldn't. We didnt do the screening either my baby girl is mine no matter what.
  • @cdswim maybe its in early pregnancy its dangerous? I'm not sure all I know is my sisters Dr warned her. Idk :) but thanks good to know!
