positive test for neural tube defect: spina bifida **UPDATE**
3 weeks ago i had blood taken to compare with my upcoming anatomy scan ultrasound next week. Last friday i recieved a call from a genetic counselor saying that i would meet with her after my ultrasound next week. I got worried and decided to call my nurse to see why i had to meet with a genetic counselor and she stated that my blood tested positive for neural tube defect: spina bifida. Im so worried and scared. This is my first child. Has anyone had blood tested positive for NTD and had a great ultrasound/healthy baby? By the way im 19 weeks along. Prayers and advice pls thx

SO YESTERDAY I WENT TO MY 20 WEEK ULTRASOUND ANATOMY SCAN AND GENETIC COUNSELOR. **ITS A GIRL-GLORIA MAGDALENA** ULTRASOUND SHOWED NO OBVIOUS PROBLEMS OR OPENINGS IN THE SPINE. BRAIN LOOKED NORMAL AS OTHER PARTS. THERE WAS A BRIGHT SPOT IN THE HEART BUT THEY SAY ITS NORMAL UNLESS IT GETS BIGGER WHICH IS SHOWN IN DOWN SYNDROME BABIES. BUT MY CHANCES WERE LESS THAN 1% BOTH FOR DOWN SYNDROME & SPINA BIFIDA. DS- 1 IN 1000 AND SPINA BIFIDA 1:66. FEELING SO MUCH BETTER. GOD HEARD ALL PRAYERS THX TO THOSE WHO PRAYED FOR US

Msamerica: yes i take prenatal pills plus i eat alot of food that has FA like bread,rice,pasta,beans,cereal. Thx for the info of the umbilical cord! Ill be sure to do that!
