I have had type 1 diabetes for 18+ years and I have worn an insulin pump since I was pregnant with my daughter over 5 years ago. I check my blood sugar anywhere between 12-15 times and day. One day my blood sugar was low most of the day, so I ended up checking 24 times! My high risk OB who is also managing my diabetes while I am pregnant doesn't want me over 90 fasting or 120 two hours after meals. The lower I can get it without having a low blood sugar the better.
Obviously the main things you want to stay away from are sugar and carbs. Keep in mind that so many things have carbs in it as well. Now is a good time to start reading the nurtition infomation on your food packages if you don't already do so. Fruit has a lot of carbs, milk has carbs, some veggies have carbs. So even if you are limiting say breads, pastas, etc. you need to be careful if you have milk or a banana or something. I am definitely not saying don't eat/drink those things, but the key is moderation. This is why it is so important to get more information and have some sort of a diet planned worked out. Good luck!

My newborn was only 8 lb 3 oz but my daughter before him was 9lb 9 oz. So I hear ya being concerned about ur diet and the baby's size. I think they didn't diagnose me with my daughter and I ate whatever I wanted. With this pregnancy I lost weight from changing my diet. He came out really healthy and not too big. One of my favorite cheated foods was coolwhip (the regular kind) I would mix that with the light and fit yogurt in the purple container for a tastey snack.
