Sciattica....anyone having leg pains

edited February 2011 in Second Trimester
This just started for me, and I didn't have it with my other 3 girls....its a pain in your bum that runs down the back of your leg....I think i need a chiropractor, but I dont know where it came from!

  • No way me too! Its to the point that I can't even hold my own weight. I experienced it with my other pregnancy and no other time inbetween
  • I'm 6w5d and I started experiencing lower back and leg pain before I realized I was pregnant. It was so bad I had to make a trip to the ER to get something for the pain. They wanted to prescribe me percocet & methypredisolone (which is a steroid) but before they could do that they had to take a urine sample to do a prenancy test which came back negative so they went ahead and prescribed them to me. My period was late but at first I just assumed it was because of the steroids. I decided to take a home pregnancy test and it was positive. I took two more PT which both came back positive. I was pregnant the entire time I was taking the medication. I stopped taking all medications and have been dealing with the pain and discomfort which is non stop. I have a hard time sleeping and I'm just praying its not going to get worse further along in the pregnancy. I have an appt with my primary care physician next week and he will probably send me for physical therapy but in the meantime, I scheduled a massage for Saturday, hopefully it helps because I would hate to have to feel this way my entire pregnancy.

  • This started for me at 7 weeks and has not let up since :(
  • I had that a while back. Im 20 weeks now. I would make it painful to walk. Only lasted a few days then went away.
  • I'm 22 weeks I have these badd leg cramps when I'm sleep or stretching they feel so awful
  • Ask your doc to send you to a physical therapist, they can teach you exercises and treatments that will help a lot.
  • i am going for a prenatal massage tomorrow for my birthday :) i hope that helps! Now i have previa....i hope thats it for complications!
  • @magcaw my midwife sent me to one she was amazing she taught my husband how to put my hip back in when it was out which helped with my "bum" pain.
  • The doctor said its very normal during pregnancy to have ciatic nerve pains, the run from one side of your lower back or butt to the other. I have really bad lower back pains....sometimes I can't even move, and I'm only 16 weeks. Its horrible, but at least u all aren't suffering w varicose veins....I have to use compression stockings, and they are soooo hard to put on and so uncomfortable, especially on my stomach where the waistband is....granted their designed for pregnant bellies, but it still feels too tight! Ugghh I hate my genetics....thanks mom!
  • Lol I have a few on 1 leg
  • Yup me too...I had it even before I was pregnant, I typically stretch during the day, make sure you are wearing good shoes that can contribute to pain.
  • I had some problems back before I got pregnant. Went to the chiropractor and she fixed me right up. My problem was due to poor posture, standing unevenly, and finally doing something to push it too far. She taught me two stretches, the first should be no problem for pregnancy...

Lay on the floor against, like, a door frame. One leg in the closet, one stretched up against the wall. Put a belt over your foot, so you can grab either side of the belt to pull your foot back, stretching the leg. Be gentle. Counts of six, ten times.

The second you pull your knee to your opposite shoulder while sitting in a chair and keeping your back very straight. Tough when you're bloated or very pregnant... or both.

My pain has been coming back, but I try to remember good posture and to distribute weight evenly on both feet. It helps prevent it for me.
  • Yeah i can't wear heels at all, and I use to wear them every day...(only 5 foot short here!) I got a massage, that really helped, and just joined a yoga class..i hope it helps!
