My baby wont drink...

edited November 2011 in Babies Health
She keeps waking up like shes hungry but when I put her on my boob she kind of just flicks her tongue on my nipple. She did latch on once but only for a few seconds & then she let go & shes back sleep. Could she have thrush or is she just sleepy? There is whitish/yellow on her gums but I cant really tell if it comes off when I wie becuz she wont let me really see in her mouth.

  • My daughter just got over thrush, they gave her Nysatin or something like that. It looks like white patches and it can be anywhere inside the mouth. She would suck for a second and then start whining and crying then start sucking again. If she is not latching on that might be the problem cause my daughters doctor said it can be painful sometimes.
  • my baby has a white dot on the roof of her mouth but I cant wipe it to see if it goes away its too far back but its been there almost 2 days now. and today shes doing the same thing @mimii36 as your baby only sucking a few mins then falling asleep and sometimes she doesnt want to latch (screams at me for a few seconds and pushes away) I really hope she doesnt have it! did you see the dr yet?

  • @heyitsme I go to her appt in the morning & I will get them to check then. I can't get her to drink from her bottle. & on my boob sometimes it takes her so long to latch on. Just like you said she screams! & I know shes hungry becuz she starts sucking on her arm like she does when she hungry. Its frustrating becuz I feel so helpless that I cnt help her.
  • @gorgeousmommy2011 yea she acts like she doesnt want to latch even tho I know shes hungry. How long did it take for your baby to get over it? Did she start latching on as soon as she took her meds or did it take until it was conpletely gone.
  • I gave her the medicine 3 times a day and by the 2nd or 3rd day she was perfectly fine and eating regularly without fussing. She took the meds for two weeks
