please help breastfeedng avoiding mastitis or engorgement

I fed my baby three times yesterday, last night I got a fever and nurses from the nursery told me not to feed her because it was bad. Today I called the hospital lactation consultant and they said baby can't latch because my nipple was not the way it was supposed to be, I guess inverted. So she gave me a manual pump and from one boob I can't get any milk out. What can I do toavoid mastitis or engorgement. I don't want to gwt sicker as I had a c section, please help ladies..

oh dear, its good to nurse the baby when youre sick can you access an electric pump or nipple shield to draw your nipple out more?
if you can hand express it helps a whole too with the pressure and plugged ducts.

ok definitely try to hand express and draw out your nipple to get baby to latch as much as possible

A warm compress will help and I usually massage and hand express too, which seems to work for me. You don't want anything cold because that will stop milk production. Hope you feel better soon!
