Do you think the pain of Labour is...

Not as bad as some people make out
Or
The worst pain ever and you feel like your dying?

Comments

  • I never went past 5 cm with all my three children...so I never got to the point of feeing like dying. But I wouldn't be able to take the pain...it hurts bad!
  • Not has bad has everyone makes out seriously I never screamed once! Xx

Honestly, I think its kind of in the middle... It's all in your mind set. It's gonna hurt no matter what and its like no other pain you've ever felt before and towards the end, you'll swear you're being ripped completely in half from hole to hole... But, then.......... There's that beautiful tiny face you've waited so long to see and those cheeks you've waited so long to kiss and that pain doesn't even matter anymore... You'll forget it almost immediately. I did one with an epidural and one naturally... I will probably get the epidural again this time lol. Yeah, its brutally painful but soooo worth it! :)

Not as bad as everyone says. They hurt but if you expect it to be unbearable, that just makes it worse. But also I labored in a position I wanted, I wasn't purple pushing flat on my back defying gravity so it was that much easier. I moaned, not screamed and put myself in lala land to concentrate lol.
  • It was a different kinda pain -it really drainsis your energyown. Glad i got the epidural. But i was never screaming or nothing crazy but everyone tolerates it differently! Good luck keep in mind that the more stressed you are so does the baby
  • I don't know I had csections with both of my babies but I can def tell you that csections are not as bad as people make them out to be. Recovery is very quick as long as you get up and start moving and don't lay around forever. To me pain is all about what you are going to make it.
  • It's kinda both! It's hurt so bad while it's happening but then it's over when baby is out.
  • Depends, i think. I had extreme back labor and only made it to 4 cm before i had to get an epidural ( i was trying to beat my sisters 6 cm but she didn't have back labor)
  • It's definitely not fun, but its not the worst thing ever either. Yeah it hurts, but distractions are good! I had my bf and mom in with me who are both very good natured easy going people, I brought in my ipod and speakers to play music I liked. Hell I was singing through most of my labour. You need to think about what you want to do to make labour more enjoyable for you, and then its not too bad.
  • I had an epidural, but lasted 17 hours on pitocin without one. It is bad pain for sure, but I wouldn't say its the worst ever. I forgot all about it When Eiralynne finally came out. Even after 30 hours!
  • I had sever back labor for 10a hours and screamed the entire time. Lost my voice next day. Way worse than I thought. Don't mean to scare you.
  • I think its an individual level on pain. So I guess both. For me it hurt pretty bad. I had horrible pain with an epi right before they called it for a c-sec (I was a VBAC and his heart rate went down horribly) We found out that his head would not fit in my pelvis and was pushing up against the bones causing the pain. But I know people who have had horrible horrible pain and those that had practically no pain at all.
  • not as bad... but IN THE MOMENT, it feels like it will never end.

but now its just a small tiny memory.
  • Depends on how well you handle pain. My epidural wore off right before pushing. It was horrible and i screamed the whole time.
  • Felt like I was dying for 18hours. Then it ended :)
  • I never felt extremely bad contractions I had a c section & the epidural is worse that ppl make it out to b and so is recovery
  • I don't have another birth to compare it to, but I never contracted on my own that I felt, so I only had pitocin-induced contractions. Worst pain I've ever felt. Ever. I didn't feel like I was going to die, but it felt never-ending. My dr refused to order my epi til 4cm and I never thought I'd make it to 4cm. The epidural is a teeny tiny pinch I hardly felt anything but sweet relief after it was in. It lasted through delivery so I didn't feel anything with that either thank goodness cuz I tore bad and needed a bunch of stitches. And recovery from that was not bad at all I didn't need anything but tylenol and ice packs for a few days.

However, a friend of mine was induced with an epi with her first and went natural no meds with her 2nd and said she felt at 8cm (natural) how she did at 4cm with pitocin. The pit contractions are no joke apparently lol
  • It is by far the worse pain you will ever experience!!! I did a lot of moaning and toward the end of the 3hr push session I was just screaming pull him out pull him out...somebody help me!! I laugh now but almost immediately u forget how bad it felt! After u see that beautiful baby u don't feel that pain anymore...I didn't even feel them sewing me up for a hr bc I was do busy watching my Lo..never even felt them down there! I recommend bringing music and move around Aw mush as u can instead of laying flat on Ur back.
  • Thanks @everyone some of your comments made me laugh and some brought a tear to my eye. I'm going to have the attitude that "yes this is going to hurt but its not something I can really do anything about so just get on with it and remember that the pain doesn't last forever" but I'm one of they lucky women who really enjoy the whole labour experience. Doubt it thou lol x
  • Meant to say hopefully I'm one of they lucky women*
  • Wasn't as bad or as long as I thought it was going to be. Everyone was telling me horror stories of 36 hours of hard labor...I got scared. I never had more then 5 hours labor total...not even hard labor with any four of my girls. Least amount was 3 hours...and I went pretty much natural(epi wasn't working until after I pushed) with my fourth...and I really wasn't in much ain at all honestly :-/ I felt a few contractions and they weren't even strong lol
