I didn't know where to put this post..
Well my husband just called me in tears of how upset he was.. his boss decided to lower his salary by a dollar just because another employee complained about my husband being newer to the job and getting payed more .. can the boss legally lower his salary without a damn reason?

Well he works in a super market cutting meats.. used to get payed 9.50 . Now 8.50 . And we have no clue who to contact

That doesn't sound legal and staff should not be aware of what each other are earning. Does he know how the other colleague knew what wage he was on in the first place? His boss should either up the other persons wage or tell them its none of their business but should not adjust your husbands pay!

The supermarket should have a human resources department. I would have him get in contact with them.

Other people's pay is confidencial and if his boss told the other co worker what he was making then his boss could be fired for it.

@three_cats_n_a_baby my husband's friend knew... And once he got drunk with his buddies and told that other guy.. his dumbass. I can't stand his friends

They probably don't have a HR dept since they are family owned and do everything themselves. I don't know the legal side of it, but I know that companies can reduce salaries. He can file for unemployment for the loss of wage.

What state is it in? Yiu should be able to contact your state workforce commission and complain.

OK so I read
Notice of Wage Reduction

Florida does not have any laws addressing when or how an employer may reduce an employees wages or whether an employer must provide employees notice prior to instituting a wage reduction. However, a wage reduction can only be applied to hours worked after the change and cannot be applied to hours already worked

So is allowed.
But they did it on this pay check.. the hours that he already worked prior to them telling him about the reduction

Call the labor board? At least that's what I would do here.

I'd call the labor board, it may take time but worth it. Bc they can't make it retroactive...at least that's what I understood when I read it. @Janet_2011

They can change his pay right before payroll is processed. That's why it was reflected in his paycheck. Legal as can be.:)

AZ is the same way. Probably a right to work regulation thing. Florida is probably a right to work state just like AZ.

That's the problem. They told him 2 days after payroll was processed unless they were sneaky about it and did the change before they told him @DevineDesign

Well idk if its like this n florida but veggie u complain check it out cuz here n cali it is against the law to tell ur co wokers wat u make. U can get fired for it here.
