Urgent BF help please!

Hello, help please.. Baby for weeks now will only feed a couple of mins at a time, still gaining weight but literally half what he should be so percentile dropped from 75th to 25th. He seems perfectly happy does alot of wet nappies but only poops like once or twice a week. He isnt on the boob long enough to get to the fatty stuff. He will not take a bottle and isnt yet 4 months so cant have food instead
I dont know what to do
Feel like a failure and have no one to talk to. Have seen docs and nurses they just monitoring it but beeb going on a while now, does anyone have any tips or advice? Thank you x

Dont know if you use a pacifier but if you do just take it away and let him use you and only change boobs every two hours so no matter how many times he gets off just keep him on one boob, and also try feeding him lying down with no distractions so hes completely focused on eating and one last important thing is try not to stress because baby will sense it and it can affect your milk. As long as hes happy and dont lose weight he will be fine. Hope it gets better

Thanks @tashalou -No pacifier, wont even entertain one lol. Not losing weight but putting on less and less. He swaps between boobs at the moment, I try keep him on one but he will just cry. He is mostly pretty happy but I am just worried he will gain less n less then,start losing, feel a bit of a failure to be honest

Your not a failure at all hun, its hard work this breastfeeding especially if your little one is having trouble. The fact that you've done it for four months is a great achievement so just try to ride out this bump in the road and Im sure it will work out

You're in the UK right? I'm sure I got given some info re helplines you can call for advice eg la leche & nct when discharged - I can root the numbers out if you need.

Also, here there is a local group which meets up weekly, its basically for mums who bf but there's a bf specialist there too, any chance you've got a similar scheme near you?

& you are not a failure, bf isn't easy xxxx

Thanks all, am going to try pumping first thats a great idea! @willothewisp - cheers and yes I am in the uk, found a local breaststart group so off there on thurs, think it will help and yes please if you have numbers, health visitors just all give me different infp and docs never give appts and wont take time to listen, they say lets see hpw it goes... But he is too precious to risk letting it carry on imo x

Sounds like you have been given great advice so far, when he cries have you tried burping him? He might be getting mad because of tummy pain...

@tinka1326 hi, yeah he used to suffer with colic really bad but now just gets normal wind, he will just never go back on after burping either, v weird, usually jerks his head and opens his mouth for a feed then moves away and cries

hey @willothewisp things r ok they said theythink I have a low supply which hadnt occoured to me but makes sense so gonna pump more and also his reflux playinf hell so got good advice :)weigh in on tues so will see if any improvement. Thanks for asking x
