I know this was talked about a long time ago and ended up having a c section so I forgot. But I have a friend due any day now and she asked me what oil I was going to use to do perineal massage during Labor. Do you guys know what it is that is suggested?

You can also use EPO. Poke a hole in the capsule and use the oil.

Perineal massage during pregnancy? You use the oil and stretch the skin between the hole of your vagina and anus. Usually you or someone else inserts their finger and goes in circles while pulling down at the lower portion @heather3rdgirl

Ok I have been streched before while in the hospital for delivery so I have never torn. But beforehand? Hmmm not so sure about that does it make you all flappy, lol sorry for the tmi ? but I'm really confused. :-??

I don't know...that's why I never did it! Made me too paranoid. Lmao. I was stretched during birth as well and never tore or ripped with either of my children

@heather3rdgirl I was always told it's pointless to do it before Labor and can actually cause infection. To only do it during Labor.

@smcox, it is one of those "depends on who you ask" kind of thing. Studies show that it's beneficial and others advise against it. I guess we shall never know! Lol. I won't do it during pregnancy though, but that's because it's just not for me. I would simply advise everyone to ask their midwife or OB for their recommendation. I'm sure @homebirthadvocate would have a lot more insight. I'm not too knowledgeable on the matter.

LOL I don't know, just repeating what the birthing class lady said. I thought about doing during pregnancy but I was so big I couldn't have reached down there if I wanted to and my hubby was in a different state :P then I just forgot about it while I was in the hospital. @bahamamama4828

My midwife stretched me during labor and I never tore when you normally do if you're not stretched or whatever.
