Exotic-dancer moms

(or strip-club cocktail waitress/bartender moms). I was just wondering if we had anyone in our pregly community...

Let me just start by saying I in no way want to get into some stupid morality debate, and I have no intention of passing judgement (quite the opposite actually). I cocktail-waitressed in my early 20's. During that time I noticed that a small majority of dancers were doing it as means to support their children (some were single moms, some were not), a smaller group were doing it to put themselves through school, and an even smaller group were "party girls" who just wanted to make good money while working as few hours as possible (which most accurately described me at the time...though I did eventually put myself through school). That being said, I would be surprised if we didn't have at least a handful of dancer-moms in our community (also because most of the dancers I knew spent a lot of time backstage on their phones...lol). However, I can't recall any ladies mention that they have danced (either before or after pregnancy). Let me also say that if my family ever fell into a less fortunate financial position, I wouldn't hesitate to strap on a pair of stilettos (even though I'm the least coordinated person on earth and would probably wind up with a broken neck...lol)

  • Lol no I myself have not done this but was once trying to be recruited by this one girl who was doing it to ” put herself through school” so she called it lol but I said heck no...I personally just can't see myself doing that but power to the women who can

@math_Mommy... I'm with you! If I had to I would be making it rain all up in here for my family.

But that would be AFTER ... I applied for every job on Craigslist list 4 times, hit up all the staffing companies and sold majority of my stuff. It would be a do or die situation. The very last straw.

I have 3 girls and a boy and I would never approve of them doing it... (matter of fact this was a precious post.. Would you support your child stripping?)

So I guess in a do or die situation... I would have to.

But there's no sex in the champaign room... LOL
  • After having 3 kids... I dont think men would pay to see my saggy boobies, stretch marks and celulite. Lol! But, honestly i am morally i am against this. I dont pass judgment on those who do tho. ;) to each their own.
  • I know of some strippers (patients of ours) that either did it to put them through nursing school or support their kids. I personally couldn't do it since my body didn't really look to demi moore-ish after my first kid lol but kudos to the women who are

  • I would do it. I loooooove watching exotic dancers. Its so....hypnotizing. Sadly, my confidence isn't up to par. Lol. But I'd love to learn for my Hubster!

  • I didn't dance, but I waitressed in a local strip joint. Our "uniforms" were bra and panties. I was doing this until about a month after I found out I was pregnant with my second...I was so miserable there that I just never showed back up to work. I LOVE strip clubs...I just hated the people at the one I worked at.

If it wasn't for being pregnant, I most likely would have decided to dance while going through school. The money gap between us waitresses and dancers was insane and not worth it at times.
  • One of my best friends does it, and sadly it's because it's all she knows. She's been dancing for 11 years and is so naive to the real world. She doesn't get how "normal" people can go to work all day long and deal with other peoples BS. She has 3 sons - an 8 year old and a pair of 2 year old twins. She's lucky, cuz she's got not one stretch mark and is still a size 4. At one point, she would bring in at least a grand a week.

Personally, could I do it? Absolutely!! My views of strip clubs are different because I live in a state where full nude is illegal, so you're only dancing in a thong and pasties covering your nipples. I would dance here in Utah, if I had the body for it. I don't see it much differently than prancing around in your underwear for a photo shoot or modeling lingerie...that's basically all it is here so it's not bothersome to me.
  • @lilsugarsmomma, same here. Pasties and panties. Also, there weren't many girls doing it where I was at to help their lives. There were three 40 year old women that had worked there since their 20's...half of them started when they began school to help, but quit school because the money was "great"...I'm all about it to further yourself IF need be...but don't get sucked in.
  • I know it's not the case for all but my neighbor is a stripper and she has two kids...her oldest has been held back 2 years in elem because half the time she doesn't get up and bring him to school. Sad.
  • Wow @ynvtish, I really had to think about that (supporting my children's decision to strip...NOT the sex in the champagne room thing...LOL). I honestly don't know how supportive I'd be because it's hard enough for me to try to conceive of my kids being adults (my oldest is 2), let alone adult strippers. While I definitely wouldn't encourage it, I'd like to think that I would be supportive of my children throughout all their decisions, good or bad. I would like to make sure they were coming from a good place (e.g. doing it to save money for school or travel), and that the work didn't change them personally or hinder their personal relationships (and I would CONSTANTLY worry about their safety). Also as @captivated pointed out, there is a tendency for women (i can only assume men too) to be "sucked in" to the point where they avoid gaining any other skills or trades or going to school. So, i would be very very vocal in my discouragement. Both of my children have college funds. But, their father and I feel its very important for kids to work to pay (in part) for their education and living expenses while in school. But, a minimum wage job would more than cover what we expect them to pay. So hopefully, the thought never crosses their minds!!!

In regard to the "if I had to" scenario, i totally agree i would exhaust all the resources I had before dousing myself in glitter and body spray!!!

As for "no sex in the champagne room", in my (limited) experience there really was none! Prostitutes aren't going to work a 6-7 hour shift that's emotionally and physically demanding not to mention painful (next time you meet a stripper, look at their legs...they are typically covered in bruises), when they could just work an hour (or less) through an escort service. Plus, if the dancers catch any girl trying to pull some "tricks", they'll chase her out of the club like a pack of heyeinas (sp?) because they don't want to compete with someone (or be mistaken for someone) who is "for sale",
  • Before I had my son I was looking into dancing..I wouldn't of minded it. I know lots of dancers. After giving birth my body is no where near what it used to be...so that's not an option anymore to support my family if needed :)
  • If I had to, I would. It's legal, and those girls work hard to put on a show. Imagine having to pretend to be turned on by old, hairy, shriveled up guys. Lol. That cannot be easy.

I worked in a strip club for 2.5 years, absolutly my favorite job! I wasnt a stripper, waitress or bartender though. I was the "house Mom"/cashier. I did paper work, checked girls in, had candy, body spray, hair spray, basic stripper essentials on hand at all times. Occasionally I worked the VIP room collecting cover & making sure there were no nasties, and I collected cover at the door as well. I worked 4 days, 10 hrs a day.. night.. lol
  • Pre marriage/pre baby I was a dancer, and yes always had bruises, that pole beats you up. I took dancing very seriously, loved making up new routines, but then again I took 4 years of ballet, jazz, hip hop, and point. I did it to put my self through school, because my parents went bankrupt, and my little minimum wage grocery store job was not going to help. I danced for two years. The first year was at a bikini club so we didn't take any thing off we just wore bathing suites. Then I worked at a thong and pastie club. They can't get nude in my state either! But anyways I met my husband through another dancer there that I was friends with, she set us up on a blind date. I didn't get sucked into any of that life style but I saw what some of those ladies become.
  • If I could dance, I'd do it for the money! lol. But I'm not very smooth at all. Just tall and lanky I guess you could say. But some of my guy friends said I should. And briefly thought about it when I went to a strip club and seen the type of money these people were throwing at this not so hot chick who couldn't dance at all. Figured hey if she can make that kind of money so could I, maybe more!
  • I was the General Manager for our gentlemans club here. I loved it and hated it lol. Watching the girls were amazing!!
  • Wish I had the nerve! I'd love to do it!
