  • Some signs are :
    Dry skin and/or lips
    Sunken fontanelle
    Less wet nappies
    Lethargy & drowsiness
    Sunken eyes
    Tearless crying
    Dark yellow urine
    Rapid breathing
Cold & blotchy looking hands & feet

Hope your little one is ok xxx

  • UPDATE: so its 9pm and his urine output is still really low. But he is acting ok, so I guess I will just watch him. I am still worried tho. I called the on call doc this morning and that was a BIG mistake! They took 2 hours to call me back and she was not helpful! She asked what liquids he had. So I told her: 5 min on each breast, then tried to give him formula but he only drank 3 ounces. So then I gave him some pedialyte with his jar of food for breakfast. Then the doc cut me off and told me that if my breast supply is that low that he needs more formula (blah blah blah no shit!) So I told her that I was aware of that, but he drank all he would drink, and I was not going to force the formula down his throat! Then she started talking over me again...(I swear to god i think the military docs think I am a freaking idiot!!). Anyway it went on like that for 10 min, with out me getting a word in edge wise. Her lecturing me on how he needs more formula during the day, and the reason he was probably not drinking was because his throat was sore and to give him tylenol (which its not his throat!). Finally I yelled to get her attention so she would shut the F* up! And told her that I was aware he needed more formula, but i was not going to force him to drink it! And that I called to find out what I needed to watch for as far dehydration, and if I should be worried. And she was clearly not going to be of any help in those areas that I would no longer need her services and then I hung up! What a freaking waste of time! I cant stand the military docs (some may remember my last run in with captain "I'm REALLY pro breast feeding but you need to give your son formula!" he was a real idiot as well) I am soo looking forward to September when we wont be on Tricare anymore!!

Anyway, so my question is should I make an appt with my ACTUAL doc...or just keep an eye...I know I am probably being overly cautious..but he hasnt had a good wet diaper all day...just trickles here and there...His only symptoms are trickle of urine here and there, what urine he does have is strong smelling, and thats it...
  • I'm sorry you had to deal with that judgmental doctor! I hate when doctors talk down to people like they're idiots!

I would definitely make an appt though, I hope he gets regular soon!
  • The problem is we were assigned a new doc...and i have never met him..so he is probably an idiot! I miss our old pediatrician..the one that delivered Ollie...sad face...
  • Awe that sucks! It's hard enough finding a doctor you like, then bam they're gone lol. Maybe he is great, got to give him a chance, right? Let me know what you decide and what they say
  • Is he running a fever? You could always ask them to check his pee to see if he has a uti
  • Nope no fever. @eeyore do they check the urine in his diaper! Or will they have to cath him?
  • No they can't use urine from the diaper, that's not sterile. They could place a sterile bag around him to catch the pee, but that doesn't always work great. So yes, a cath :(
  • if he has no fever, I don't think it's a uti. But it's definitely worth a visit

  • Ya he is acting fine and his skin looks fine...@jdensma

I am probably just worrying for no reason... But he has never had so little urine output in 24hrs before...
  • Do you think he's teething?
  • Oh yes avoid the cath if you can, you might end up educating the doc on how to cath with foreskin!I I hope he starts peeing soon. You actually can give him coconut water, 2 -3oz and see if that helps.
  • When my 2 yo was about 10 months he got very dehydrated once during the summer time. It was awful. They put the plastic in his diaper because I said hell no to the cath. He ended up with an iv bag for fluids and was fine right after. It was weird, he was nursing a lot and I didn't have any supply issues. Just wanted to share my experience. I know how it is and how scary it can be :)
  • give him some water.
  • they put a bag on my baby gurl to check her urine I hope hes doin better :)
  • @summergirl22 yeah he's been trying to cut his 2 top teeth for a few weeks now

@bahamamama4828 I totally forgot about the coconut water! I have some in the fridge to! Thanks! Thanks for sharing your experience! I am trying not to over react..but I know this isn't normal for him

@mommylovessparkle yes I have been...along with pedialyte and formula.
  • thats good, hows he doing now?
  • well teething could be why he's drinking less, which in turn could be why he's peeing less. how many wet diapers has he had in a 24hr period?
  • Not many...like 4...and only one was substantial wet...@summergirl22 could be the teething...seems the only thing he wants to do is nurse...unfortunately there isn't much in there. He fights the bottle of formula and chews the cup nipple that has water. I am going to make an appt in the morning if things don't pick up.
