NEED IDEAS FOR TATTOO PLEASE

My brother has recently overcome his long term struggle with addiction & wants a tattoo to "reward & remind himself". He wants a simple quote (he doesnt want it to take up too much space). I came up with the idea of "Through pain comes strength" and he likes it, but is still unsure. Do you ladies have any ideas on a simple quote along those lines? He doesnt want the word addiction etc because he doesnt want it to be obvious to people that he was an addict. Ideas???

  • I like that @bexiewexie Im really proud of him and want to give him a lot of different ideas. Thats a good one, thanks
  • Oh, I should add, he wants poison ivy leaves tangled in the quote (representing the poison he had been putting in his body) if that helps
  • There's a blessing in every lesson? Idk I really like bexiewexie idea.
  • "There's no mountain that I can't climb"

    Hope thats not too long.
  • Have you/him read the poem desderata (sp?) It's what my sister has tattooed on her for over coming self harm addiction. Check it out.
  • Do you have a link for it @natashalynn
  • @megaeoo I don't sorry. But just type it into Google. Or hold on. I might have it written on my phone.
  • Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,

    and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible, without surrender,

    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and
    clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and the ignorant;

    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
    they
    are vexatious to the spirit.
    If you compare yourself with others,

    you may become vain or bitter,
    for always there will be greater and
    lesser persons than yourself.
    Enjoy your achievements as well as your
    plans.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real
    possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business
    affairs,
    for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you
    to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals,
    and
    everywhere life is full of heroism.
    Be yourself. Especially do not feign
    affection.
    Neither be cynical about love,
    for in the face of all
    aridity and disenchantment,
    it is as perennial as the grass.
    Take kindly the counsel of the years,

    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit
    to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark
    imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be
    gentle with yourself.
    You are a child of the universe
    no less than the
    trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it
    is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,

    whatever you conceive Him to be.
    And whatever your labors and
    aspirations,
    in the noisy confusion of life,
    keep peace in your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken
    dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful. Strive to be
    happy.
  • Thank you it is very good!!! @natashalynn

    Oh I originally just meant the title of the poem, which is desderata (double check spelling) but megaroo was curious about the whole thing.

    However, I love the part about being no less than the trees and the stars. That might tie in well with poison ivy.

    You're welcome @megaroo , I try to read it every time I'm feeling down. It always pits things in perspective for me.
  • @natashalynn oh, I got ya. I do like.the poem though. Im going to show it to him
  • Cool. Let me know what he thinks. :)
  • @natashalynn I will for sure :) If nothing else, I really love it lol
  • The poison ivy could wrap around the anchor in bexiewexie's idea.
  • Lol well that's good enough for me!!
  • Poison is what I let poison me
