  • yah I want an older friendly mild tempered dog
  • I rescued a boxer pit mix and he's great with my newphew and he just turned one and has been around him since he was 1 month old he let's him ride him like a pony pull his ears crawl all over him he's great and the dog is a puppy and was abused and he doesn't have a mean bone in his body and when my newphew is a sleep he watches him like crazy and me and his mom are the only ones aloud near him
  • Awwwwwww thats what I want
  • Ooh, pugs r great w kids. They used to b called "nursery dogs". We have one and she us the best dog ever! We have 3 little kids and she has never ever "snapped" at them. They coukd pull her tail (which we dont let them do) and she would never even get mad at them or anything.
  • My 2 pugs r really good with my daughter. They never even showed much interest in her until she was walking. They are awesome alarm dogs. They wont do much but jump on someone coming in but they give a heads up anytime someone walks by the window and go nuts when someone is at the door. My daughter also just spent a week at my mil with the pugs. My mil has 4 dogs of her own. 2 golden retrievers and 2 poms. She was totally fine with the 6 dog madhouse lol. My daughter is 1 and loved playing with the 2 month old pom. She also used one of the goldens as a step stool to get up on the couch. She also thinks it is the funniest thing to see the pugs play fight.
  • If you go to a local shelter or rescue and explain to someone exactly what you're looking for then they can match you up with the perfect one.
  • I have a lab/pit and a border collie/shep mix, along with a cat, you will be fine just make sure there is room for your pup to play, and make sure they are a good breed to have around children.
  • Get a dog that's good with children but will still protect you. A Labrador would be good.
  • I have a pitbull and a Chihuahua! What a dueo! Lol but Anyways I say rescue a older dog! Pitbulls are awesome family dogs ( as long as they are raised correctly ) but I wouldn't get a Chihuahua lol very protective over there owners and could not get along with the baby but I know my pit is going to be the type of dog that sleeps next to my baby's crib and protect the baby! But do your research! ! Get the best dog for you and your family
  • @mome2a09x11 labs aren't as good as u think. They are highly over bred, and now have lots of health and tempermant issues. Unless u find a Quality breeder I don't recommend them. Working in a hospital I see lots of dog bites from labs and goldens. I professionally show dogs as well, and hearing other handlers stories are scary. I'm not saying all labs and goldens are bad, there are great ones out there but they need to be researched fully beforing buying from someone.
Also I am a firm beliver in doggie classes. Training is a great way to bond with your dog but it teaches the dog manners
  • I had a lab as a child. She was a sweetheart. Maybe I got lucky.

Labs are great dogs. I'm the proud mommy of a black lab and shepherd mix. The problem with them is that they like a lot of other breeds are a high energy dog. Its gonna be difficult during pregnancy and with a newborn to give any high energy dog the physical requirements they need to be healthy. They are puppy like for several years and need a great deal of supervising and need to be treated like a dog and not a baby. Many people don't understand this and get frustrated with the dog when they misbehave or don't give the desired results or when they don't actually act like a dog. Anyone adopting a dog who is pregnant should consider an older established dog from a shelter or newspaper. A dog who is not going to meed to be supervised 24/7. And dobiemomma is right.. classes. Any first time dog adopter should do there research before adopting and know exactly what they are getting into. We would have less dogs ending up back in shelters if people did their homework before jumping in.

And back to labs.. every one I've ever known was a very intelligent loving dog. Its when they aren't treated properly as with most dogs that they have issues.
  • I am very hesitant about older dogs my bf wanted to rescue a dog from the shelter but u honestly dont kno how they are gonna react some dogs will only take so much i hav a yellow lab whose 9 months old an it took her sometime but shes trained now an well my bf has a black lab mixed wit Idk wat but he has only been around kids a few times an hes even growled an snapped at my 5 yr old thats y i wont ever buy an older dog cuz they get to the point where they dont wanna play nemore but r puppy definately loves the boys an even is super protective about me i kno others have their opinions but thats my experience an uve realized it more then once puppys grow with ur family an r easier to adapt dogs seem to not like change some may but others may not
  • While pregnant with my second I went to humane society and got a dog. They train temperament the dogs. He was great with the baby and already house broke and trained. Didn't have to deal with stress of training plus gave a great dog a good home!
  • We had a white lab. Lots of yard space puppy classes doggie classes. Did everything right had all kinds of toys car rides you name it... but we had to put him down he would just attack us for no reason I have a big scare on my leg and one on my hand from times he wont after me for no reason did the same to my mom and dad. The vet says it could have been from when breeders cross breed to close or lines get crossed makes pretty dogs but messes there heads up. Now we have a boxer pit mit and a boxer the mix is a lazy lap dog a big baby loves to just kuddle and hate the rain and snow. The boxer. Loves to play play play and box its cute see how there get there names. She hates the hot weather likes the snow and rain... and will sit on sleep on the pit mix pull on his ears and tail its like a little sister trying tag along and play with her older brother. Sorry so long I love my fur babies....
  • Any dogs that my aunt and uncle had gotten from the pound and rescued have turned out to be terrible choices. I understand that it is the adults choice as to which dog they want there. They must have just chosen bad dogs. Every one they had gotten, no matter male or female, had ended up biting someone in the family. You never know where or who your rescued dog pos coming from and it could have many issues. One of the dogs my aunt rescued was a small mix and had a huge issue with boys. Didn't matter how old. If you want a safe bet I would go to a breeder and get a puppy that has been born into being around humans and children of all age so its like second nature to them. My mother has 11 shih-tze. They aren't gaurd dog size but they are all good watch dogs. I have a 6 year old nephew, a 4 year old niece and a 19 month old nephew. These kids and dogs have been raised together and there is never any issue. The kids squish them and pull their ears and get on their last nerve but they have never snapped and still come running to greet my niece and nephews. It really does depend on the breed. My boyfriend has a jack russel terrier and we live in an apartment, it doesn't work so well. The jack is constantly into everything, licking EVERYTHING barking at people going to their residences, I int have a problem with my shih-tzu with these issues. Just look into breeds and follow suggestions when it comes to where you will be living for the majority of the puppy's like so you can easily train it and it wont drive you nuts all evening when your husband gets home from work in the evening. Just do your homework and choose wisely. Sorry so long lol
  • Ladies I cannot express how much ur opinions matter in this situation lots of great points and I will take that in consideration... The one thing with breeders is that they are very expensive wen we got our boxers they were pure breed german boxers strong beautiful rich color great temperment but expensive with my cane corso he was just tooo big lol and my pits were all amazing just sweet and playful and lazy all good dogs not to mention the goldens great dogs but I wud like to find a home for a poor dog that isnt a puppy.. At least thats not what ill be looking for I guess ill just have to go to a shelter and walk in and just spend time with some and he or she will pick me... ??? I dont want to bring the baby to the shelter so do I bring a blanket so they can sniff it idk lol just a ???
  • Id wait for the baby to be born because I have a friend who had a puppy and her baby turned out to be allergic which was odd because no one else in the family was but it sucks giving up a pet
  • I have a bullmastif he is the greatest dog I couldn't have found better he is wonderful with my boys who jump climb pull poke bite him he just kisses them if he doesn'twant to play he will just walk away they are a lazy breed they don't need walks everyday as long as they get out to do their business they are happy to lay down and cuddle the rest of the day he is very protective as well if anyone comes in my house he doesn't let them near the kids he is amazing but very large and kind of clumsy
  • I dont se a problem with having dogs and babies.me and my boyfriend have three dogs and are expecting our first baby.the dogs do good with my one year old god daughter even though they are hyper dogs.you just have to remember that they are going to be curious and that is natural you can't punish them for that it will just cause behavioral problems
  • Yah the bigger the dogs the clumsyer they are my cane corso couldnt control his weight or size so hed callapse to lay down and run right down the stairs hitting whatever was at the bottom lol poor baby I was scared he was gonna get a concusion (if thats how u spell it) I plan on having a dog similer to my old boxer kinda the same temperment not as protective but in the same respect like an old man just not grumpy all the time lol I just get nervous my husband wants to bring his dog home when she retires but that dog is mean im scared of her and I just cant see how she will let me be around the baby or my husband shes protective of the males so I have no doubt shell do great with my son im just scared shes gonna eat me in my sleep so I def want to get a dog before hes convinced we adopt her and just want to be sure Im doing a good thing
