Natural and/or Home Birth moms

edited April 2011 in Giving birth
I have been feeling alone in the forum lately, seeing so many posts about epidurals and c-sections. I had my daughter naturally, it was the best and only way I could imagine it as a first time mom. Now I plan to deliver my son at home. I guess I'm just looking for likeminded moms with similar experiences to connect with.

  • Me too!! I want the best for my baby and my husband and I both felt like our best/most peaceful option was homebirth.. I'm so happy with our decision so far ..3 weeks to go and we'll see how it goes!! I love the homebirth idea because generally unless there's a serious problem its intervention free and so much more relaxing.. when are you due?
  • One of my good friends had a home birth with her second daughter. She loved the experience and said she will definitely do it again with her next baby. She was actually quite lucky that she was planning on it and was prepared; she was only in labor for 40 minutes (from first contraction to delivering her daughter, which she was able to do herself). :D
  • I just turned 18 when u had my first, all natural...no pain killers. Also again with my second. I'm on my third (25yrs old) and plan again to do it all natural, even considering an unasisted homebirth ;;)
  • ooops.. I instead of u

Awesome, I'm sure the experience will be beautiful! How far along are you?
  • I'm planning a natural birth! Don't have the home birth option but it will definitely be no epidural or drugs!
  • i had my first little one all natural and i think a home birth expeirience would be awsome :) id so do it if my hunny wouldnt freak out lol
  • I had to have an epidural with my first because my labor stalled due to me having back labor and a c-section was out of the question for me! But everything went well and fast afterwards. Im trying all natural again this time and hopefully I will be able to this time :D I myself wouldn't feel comfortable doing a home birth, but that's just me. I wish you all very safe labor and delivery's! :)
  • This is my first and i want to do it the natural way no meds.. some ppl think i'm crazy but my bf father n some females are supportive of it .. but the fact that a lot of ppl don't think i can do it makes me want to even more i have a high tolerance for pain so we shall see im excited
  • My first two were natural, I was proud of myself that my body did it. With my 3rd child we had epi, due to his birth defect. We wanted my bag of waters to safely act as a guide for his head. This process took 3 full days of labor. Having had an epidural, I'm torn now with the decision on this baby.

  • Wow ladies, I am overwhelmed and excited to hear all ur stories and plans. @praying4our3rd way to go on the vbac. I imagine that decision takes courage and conviction.
@BabyGeesmama2B I am due in July. After my first birth was so incredible, I became so fascinated with learning more, I think I had it planned before we conceived LOL.
@MammaCass I can't imagine having the courage to make that choice so young. U r an example to others. I had Rosalee at 26 and very few people believed in me.
    @lmelanson & @ahendricks09 good for u!

I am looking forward to everything: the support of the midwives, no machines hooked up to me, eating n drinking whatever I want, freedom to move, the big tub in my living room, soft light an# music, my daughter by my side, my mom and mil helping out, my own shower, jammies and sheets to crawl into, my hsbd holding me and holding my son after much rewarding hard work!
  • This is my first and I want to do a natural birth too. I hope I don't chicken out! I'm scared of a home birth though, so I prefer to do it at the hospital, but I plan on staying at home as long as possible.

Every time I say I want a natural birth, though, people look at me like I'm crazy! My mom and mil both had natural births, so they're supportive.

  • Oh, and an ambulance notified that I am in labour, an impressive <5 min response time and a 7 min transfer to hospital helps too.
  • im gunna hopefully do it without meds. but my bf wanted to do a homebirth but i refused i kno i would be way stressed adn worry nonstop so i told him when he carries a baby for 9 months he can deliver at home
  • I plan on doing this natural but not at home.. i think it would be too messy at home and id rather not have the smell in my house haha
  • @littlemami I got the crazy looks too, even more now, no one I know has done this despite the 250+ babies born at home every year in my small city. but what was worse, people who thought I was naive. "oh, once u get there, u will realize u can't handle it and how silly this is." that ticked me right off but gave me drive to prove them wrong!
  • This is my first and I really want to try for a natural birth; my bf seems to be on the fence though...but he says I can do whatever I want. Which isn't the support I wish he gave me...oh well. I'm glad there are more mama's out there that want to do this too. Thanks for this post. :)
  • @BabyRosalee yes! Everyone keeps saying I'll change my mind once the pain comes- I really want to prove them wrong, too.
  • @BabyRosalee Thanks... and ppl dnt think I knw what im gettin myself into im 19 with my first but I knw I can I actually thought about water births as well
  • I'm having a natural birth. I would have a home birth but I'm concidered high risk. My first son was all natural and such an amazing experience
My other two sonsi had an epidural and I don't remember much.
I've since had back surgery and my doctor thinks because of the scar tissue I can't have an epidural even if I wanted one.Plus from the back surgery I became quite dependent on opiates, I don't think it would be quite effective me. I avoid all prescriptions now. I'm looking forward to the hormone rush of a natural birth. :)
  • Exactly and people always say your retarded for wanting a natural birth. They say we are dumb and all..ugh..just shut up ppl lol
  • I don't know how much support id be as I am still learning and haven't experienced this all before but I plan on doing a natural birth. This is my first pregnancy, so wish me luck:)

@CrazyBeautifulx0 it can be overwhelming I know, when u don't know what to expect, but if u prepare ur mind and body, create a safe, calm environment, and believe in yourself u can do it! Good luck.
  • I am hoping for a natural birth as well. I live on an island and since this is my first child my midwife won't do a home birth which I am kind of okay with. The hospital is a short plane ride away in an emergancy but still. I hate that people keep telling me I don't know what I'm getting myself into wanting a natural birth! I mean I know this is my first baby but I feel like if you look at the potential side affects from the various drugs they give you the risks far out weigh the rewards! My bf is a nurse and doesn't want me taking drugs or giving birth in a hospital because he feels like they will force drugs on me lol. We also watched a documetry about birth and it scared him. Which it was going for an extreme shock value and I knew that going in so it just made me feel like in an extreme situation I will be able to realize when people are pressuring me and be able to say no! I am really excited though my mom and her mom had very short labor with all their kids so I hope I'm blessed with that! Good luck ladies! Stay strong! Women all over the world give birth everyday without drugs and are just fine! We can do it ladies we are MUCH stronger then anyone gives us credit for!!!!!
  • I had my daughter natural. I have bp issues so I have to deliver at the hospital. I plan on having my son natural too.
  • I delivered my first at home without any help and pain relief but it was unplanned though I wouldn't change it because it was so easy! My second I had 12 days ago at my local birthing centre naturally, just my midwife and my partner. Was also a quick labour, no stitches or anything. Home the same day. I think you should have a birth you're comfortable with or which is best for baby and you but naturally can be done. :-)
  • I REALLY wanted to have a home water birth but my hubby was/is scared (he works in the state health dept and has alot of dr friends). Unfortunately they have diag.osed me with gestational diabetes so I am slightly uncomfortable with a home birth. But I am planning on going all natural no heplock, no drugs, in the water (if possible) at the hospital with mt midwife. My last baby was 9 lb 9oz and it was a much easier delivery than my first who was 7 lb 12 oz. (Both were extremely calm and relaxed compaored to what u see on tv. No screaming or cussing or craziness in the room. We sang instead and my doula would massage my feet and back. I did yell twice briefly this time I have a goal of no yelling just breathing, praying ,and relaxing.
  • Im worried about tears and or having to be cut having a natural birth.. has anyone gone through that naturally?
