Am not an expert but animals can be vicious and snap at anytime no matter how calm and loving they are...example the chimp that attacked that lady in ct and took her face off..just b careful
I heard of that story too...a pitbull ripped if an 8 month old scalp..some ppl are nieve about stuff like this..o my dog is so nice and this and that@firsttimemommytobe...i dnt trust pet around infants or toddlers caz they cant defend them selves
I agree with u ladies 100% lexi34 n firsttimemommytobe. On another post today I had comment n said I saw on the news how the two month old lab killed the five month old baby sleeping in his swing. The dad that was watching his son thought since the baby was sleeping it was okay to step out the room. Poor baby n stupid dad. They put the puppy to sleep.
I have three big dogs n trust me they will not be around my baby. Two r outside dogs but one is an indoor dog. Once my baby is born he is going outside also. I will not have my baby crawling on carpets where dogs r walking all over or has layed at.
In this situation with the pitbull the fath er actually killed the pitbull which I dnt blame him I would of done the same. @mrsthompson34 that's so sad poor baby
I have two pits n a boxer n if it were up to me I would get rid of them all. My husband is the animal lover. I told him I will not be cleaning dog poop. His mom cleans n feed the dog. So all I care about is cleaning my babys poop lol. Yess that was a sad story.
I'm sorry, I disagree with peoples view on certain animals. Being the owner of an amazing pure bred American Bulldog, I know I can trust him 110% with my kids. I've been around this bred of dog all my life, and I know that its all in the way you raise them.....in all honesty, we also have a min pin that we bought my daughter, and I have to be extremely cautious with her around my kids then my bulldog...sorry, its all in the way the media attempts to put a bad rep on certain animals the make people believe the way they do. I truely think its ridiculous the way some people perceive some animals, especially the ones that are on the news.....there's a little more than what's being said.
I had a lab we got when my oldest was 18 month old and we didn't leave our infant alone with him either because we didn't know if he would do something due to being jealous but he was very protective and was lying down in front of the couch where the baby was and unless it was a family member we wouldn't let anyone close to my son. But either way you have to be careful. I know that there was an episode with a little lap dog chewing on an infants hand while mom went to shower and a few fingers went missing from his hand
I think it has nothing to do with the animal itself but with the adults who don't watch the interactions. My dog is a pitbull but in no way is he vicious nor would I consider a house pet in the same way a chimp would be. Dogs are breed to be with humans and chimps are not. Its very sad when something happens but it almost always has something to do with the parents not watching. My dog will stay inside as this is his home tooz and i live in Alaska and find it cruel to leave pits outside anywhere its cold. They have very little fur and I would never do that. Just watch your dog the way you should watch your child and everything will be fine
@camomommy2 I agree! I have a 4 pitbulls. 2 in the house & 2 outside. They 2 outside I wouldnt have around a baby. Not because they are vicious but because they are VERY playful. They NEVER bite or nip but they jump alot & can knock you over. They just lick you to death then! Lol. But my 2 inside are VERY docile. They have grown up around babies & children & I trust them 110%. Its all in how you RAISE them! Just because its a pittbull doesnt instantly make it a killer dog.
But if you cant trust your pet then dog have it around bby. There are always signs.
Also.. Animals like chimps are WILD animals & will always remain so!
@veteranswife they do have good dogs but still it only.takes one time for them to snap I dnt swear for animals caz u never know...taking precaution is always wise.
I completely agree that its all how they ate raised I have a 1 and half year old bullmastif I trust him with my life he is the sweetest puppy I've ever met he is extremely protective over my kids and won't let anyone near them unless we give him the ok I consider him one of my children lol don't get me wrong any animal could attack at any time but only if provoked and in.my case my dog would only feel provoked if we (my family) were threatened
Mimibrowneyez36 I have two pits, one outside n one inside. The one outside he is friendly doesnt bark at my family when they come over. N my boxer stays outside with him but the boxer always barks n hes mean. But my outside pit is so quiet that im scared to have him around kids but he does like to jump n give kisses. My inside pit hes sweet. He knoes better then to act up if kids r around. I would trust him to play with my baby when shes born but like shes one or so but I have to be there to watch his every move. Dogs r dogs if something is up they will attack no matter how good of a dog they r.
Lol, I have 2 weiner dogs they are 8 &7 years old. I trusted them with my daughter #1, and still do. They cuddle and love her. But my son #2, messes with them and yeah they nip at him. But you would too if you had your ears, paws and tail pulled all the time. They have never really hurt him nor drawn blood. It's not just the animal people its the children too. But my dogs know that once they nip that they are in trouble so the run and hide in their kennel. My son is almost two and he he just a holy terror. Needless to say he still messes with them.
On the news last year. This couple had a SNAKE that had climbed out of its caged and strangled their baby girl. Wtf are you doing with a snake and not checking on this baby during the night. Only in the south.
I agree that not all pits are bad. Its all in the way you raise the dog. Its also pretty naive to leave a baby alone with any animal tho. I wouldn't even let my baby and hamster hang out together (mostly for Nibbler's safety tho. Rodents are delicate).
I did know a.couple with a baby girl who would hang out with their 3 pitbulls. All 3 dogs lived the baby and she loved it when they'd lick her face. Mom didn't like that tho lol. They read books about pitbulls and raised them very carefully.
I agree on both sides. We got our dog when our daughter was 4 and they are inseparable. However, I am nervous with the new baby coming. I am a firm believer that training and supervision are crucial. My pup is a lab Basset mix so he pretty much just barks at things and looks at us to catch whatever he is eying ...LOL. Hope I made sense. I'm tired
I have a one year old pitbull and I have no idea how she is around babies. Toddlers and people she is delightful. Just gets a bit over excited. (chihuahuas and other small dogs are another story) I trust her completely. BUT we dont even leave her alone with a pair of shoes so she sure wont be left alone with the baby.
My sis had a pit that grow up with het son one day my nephew. Was playing in the bk yard like he always does will out of know where the dog attacked him..he was hospitalized the dog bite his throat n almost got his windpipe thank god it didn't cuz my nephew would of been in pretty bad shape..
Sorry but the worst dogs aren't pits its stupid ignorant owners....breeds that are scarry around kids r Chihuahuas n cocker spaniels but again socialize your dog's. ..dogs who stricktly live outdoors its the worst n owners stupidity! I could go all day on subjects like this but I wont
@mrsthompson34 for like five minutes i couldve sworn when you said "and when he is born he will be going outside too" that you meant your baby and not your dog, hahaha. i was like WHAAAT
I think its great for kids and animals to grow up round each other but I would never leave them alone together. My sister in law has a staff and she is the softest, wimp of a dog I've ever met but I never leave my son on his own with her as it only takes a second. He loves following her round, trying to cuddle her etc and she could easily get annoyed by him! She often ends up under a table trying to hide from him lol. It is just common sense really!
